  • Publication number: 20250321310
Abstract: A locator includes a yaw sensor for measuring a yaw orientation of the locator and a triaxial antenna for receiving a dipole electromagnetic signal to generate flux components. A processor generates a relative yaw orientation characterizing a difference between the yaw orientation of the walkover locator and a reference yaw orientation of the transmitter and determines an actual position of at least one of the locate points relative to the walkover locator based on at least one measured set of the flux components, the relative yaw orientation and the measured pitch orientation of the transmitter. The locator can measure GPS positions of locate points at least for use in identifying an overhead position. Selected combinations of various positions and features relative to the transmitter and locator can be shown in isometric views. The locator can be configured for automatic switching between locating modes based on proximity to a plane of symmetry.

  • Publication number: 20250283403
Abstract: A planning tool plans movement of a boring tool for an underground drilling operation. The planning tool includes one or more wheels for rolling on a surface of the ground along a path responsive to movement by an operator to characterize the surface contour and to generate guidance for the boring tool to reach a target position. Planning can additionally be based on waypoints. The planning tool can be rolled unidirectionally or bidirectionally to characterize the surface contour. Bidirectional movement cancels accelerometer fixed bias. Path stitching is used to plan around obstacles. The planning tool can facilitate tracker placement. The planning tool can collect noise information for frequency selection purposes. A described technique maximizes linear drilling in an underground plan. Compensation and/or warnings are provided for unsteady, fast and slow movement of the planning tool while measuring the surface contour.

  • Patent number: 12262197
Abstract: The subject disclosure provides systems and methods for sender verification for encrypted electronic messaging. The discloses systems and methods may facilitate reducing or preventing spam messages between electronic devices. An electronic device may determine, prior to sending an electronic message to another device with a first level of encryption that is higher than a second level of encryption, whether the electronic device is eligible to send the message with the first level of encryption. If an electronic device determines that it is ineligible to send the message with the first level of encryption to another electronic device, a first message from the electronic device to the other electronic device may be sent with the second level of encryption as part of an unencrypted or low encryption handshake between the devices.

  • Patent number: 11555352
Abstract: A boring tool is movable through the ground. A transmitter supported by the boring tool transmits an electromagnetic homing signal. A portable device monitors the electromagnetic homing signal and receives the electromagnetic homing signal in a homing mode for guiding the boring tool to a target position. A processor generates steering commands for guiding the boring tool based on a bore plan in a steering mode such that at least some positional error is introduced without using the electromagnetic homing signal. Switching from the steering mode to the homing mode is based on monitoring of the electromagnetic homing signal as the boring tool approaches the portable device to then guide the boring tool to the target position location in compensation for the positional error. Intermediate target positions are described as well as guiding the boring tool based on the homing signal so long as the portable device receives the signal.

  • Publication number: 20070212154
Abstract: An image output device includes a marking engine and a media path adjacent the marking engine. The media path has a media transportation direction and a media transport element (e.g., a nip drive, a belt drive, a suction drive, an air pressure drive, etc.) within the media path that moves the media along the media path in the media transportation direction. A drive motor is operatively connected to the media transport element. The drive motor provides drive force in a forward direction that causes the media transport element to move media along the media path in the media transportation direction. The drive motor can also provide the drive force in a reverse direction opposite the forward direction. A one-way drive transfer device (e.g., a one-way clutch, a one-way swing arm mechanism, etc.) is operatively connected to the drive motor. The one-way drive transfer device only transfers drive force from the drive motor when the drive motor operates in the reverse direction.

  • Publication number: 20060101099
Abstract: Methods and systems for managing e-mails involve an e-mail server that maintains a data set identifying e-mails, and that implements a shortcut feature whereby at least a portion of an e-mail identified in the data set is identified by a shortcut identifier, so that the at least a portion of the e-mail is not stored in the data set. One method involves replicating a copy of at least some of the e-mails onto the client computer when the client computer is coupled to the e-mail server. Another method involves accessing a full copy of an e-mail while a client computer is not in communication with the e-mail server. Another method involves maintaining the shortcut identifier for an e-mail in the data set so that the data set is not updated with a full copy of the e-mail when a user requests the e-mail.
