  • Patent number: 9835011
Abstract: An apparatus and method for locating multiple windows in a wellbore. The windows are associated with lateral wells.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 3, 2014
Date of Patent: December 5, 2017
Inventors: Gerald J. Cronley, Timothy T. Torrez
  • Patent number: 8783367
Abstract: A lateral liner tie back system and method includes a base sub having a tapered upper end surface. The base sub may be positioned in a main bore at a window to a lateral bore. The tapered upper end surface of the base sub may direct a junction sub from the main bore partially into the lateral bore such that an end of an existing liner positioned within the lateral bore is disposed within a central bore of the junction sub. The system may also include a tie back sub that is lowered through the junction sub into the lateral bore. The tie back sub includes threads for engaging the end of the existing liner in the lateral bore. The lateral liner tie back system may selectively direct a tool that is lowered in the main bore into the lateral bore or prevent the tool from entering the lateral bore.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20140182847
Abstract: A system for sealing a wellhead. The system includes a setting frame, a driver cylinder selectively applying an axial motion, an adaptor attached to the wellhead, and a power mandrel operatively attached to the driver cylinder. The system may also include a setting sleeve attached to the power mandrel, with the setting sleeve having a packer element, wherein the setting sleeve is responsive to a pressure applicator and retractor device so that the packer element is expanded within the master valve. A method of isolating a wellbore is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8316937
Abstract: A down-hole assembly used to locate an existing window in a main cased well bore and guide equipment through the window and into a lateral well bore after removal of a whip stock. The down-hole assembly includes a running tool with a convex section detachably connected to a concave section of a guide member. The running tool includes a window locator that locates the window. The window locator may contain a selectively reciprocating shear rod operatively associated with a stop/shear block to enable the window locator to locate a plurality of lateral well windows in a main well bore. The guide member includes an inclined or wedge shaped portion for guiding tools or equipment through the window and into the lateral well bore so that remedial work can be carried out.
