Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed which, in the preferred embodiment, is used to secure a wheelchair to a vehicle which is transporting the wheelchair. The apparatus includes an upper securing portion and a lower securing portion operated by a single control element. Two embodiments are described. In a first embodiment the upper securing element includes a sliding plate which engages an upper portion of the wheelchair for one vertical position, and disengages the wheelchair in a second vertical position. In a second embodiment the upper securing element engages the upper portion of a wheelchair by rotation. Both embodiments employ a lower securing element which engages projections on a wheelchair and also grasps the rear axle of the wheelchair.
