Publication number: 20030153023Abstract: This invention is directed to an optically-based method and system for analyte detection using solid phase immobilization, specific analyte labels adapted for signal generation and corresponding processes for the utilization thereof. The enumeration detection method disclosed herein narrows the area for signal observation, thus, improving detectable signal to background ratio. The system is comprised of a platform/support for immobilizing a sample stage having a labeled sample (analyte complex) bound thereto, a radiation source, an optical apparatus for generating and directing radiation at said sample and a control that obtains data and then conducts analyses using digital image data. Upon engagement of the system, the sample generates a signal capable of differentiation from background signal, both of which are collected and imaged with a signal detector that generated a sample image to a data processing apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2002Publication date: August 14, 2003Inventors: Timothy W. Starzl, Scott M. Clark, Mary Beth Vellequette, H. John Hanlin, Steven W. Metzger

Publication number: 20020103809Abstract: An automated system and method for creating a topical data structure of documents or other items from an inter-linked system of documents, such as the Web and/or the Internet. The data structure can then be searched using conventional means information to generate highly relevant results. The system automatically utilizes pre-existing search resources to discover and collect topically relevant information from the inter-linked system of documents, which can be added to the topical data structure. The topically relevant information collected using the pre-existing search resources can be directly added to the data structure or can be further filtered for relevancy before being added to the data structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 2, 2001Publication date: August 1, 2002Applicant: SearchLogic.com CorporationInventors: Timothy W. Starzl, Ravi S. Starzl

Publication number: 20010029050Abstract: A system for detecting a specific substance or analyte of interest is provided that includes one or more sensing units and an instrument for analyzing the sensing units. Each sensing unit preferably includes a substrate, an attachment layer and at least one capture layer that includes a ligand layer. In one embodiment, the attachment layer is tripartite and includes a lower binding surface held to the substrate and an upper binding surface that holds the ligand layer, together with an insulating layer disposed between these two surfaces. The lower binding surface provides a durable and stable attachment to the substrate. The upper binding surface holds the ligand layer and does not jeopardize the integrity or viability thereof. The insulating layer prevents any unwanted interaction between the lower and upper binding surfaces. Each sensing unit is supported on a test piece received by the instrument. The instrument controllably positions the test piece using marks and/or codes on the test piece.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 14, 2001Publication date: October 11, 2001Applicant: Accelr8 Technology CorporationInventors: Timothy W. Starzl, David W. Nunnery, MaryBeth Robinson, H. John Hanlin

Patent number: 5542431Abstract: A system is disclosed for making determinations related to the heat cycle in a cow. The system includes an electronic patch attached to the cow. A transmitter module for transmitting heat mount data is contained in a pouch of the electronic patch. A removable and disposable battery is also contained in the pouch for powering the transmitter module. The heat mount data from the transmitter module is sent to a repeater module to maintain the quality of the transmitted heat mount data signal. The heat mount data is re-transmitted by the repeater module to a central receiver module which includes a memory for storing heat mount data. The heat mount data is downloaded to a computer upon request using software that is also used to analyze the heat mount data. Analysis of the heat mount data results in determining a value that is useful in deciding on the optimal time to breed the cow.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1993Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Assignee: DDX IncorporatedInventors: Timothy W.
