Abstract: Prioritised data is transmitted in packets. The data includes first data having a first priority level and second data having a second priority level. Each transmitted packet includes a first allocation of said first data and a second allocation of said second data and the relative sizes of said first allocation and said second allocation reflect the relative priority levels of said first data and said second data.

Abstract: Data packet transmission involves transmitting a plurality of data packets from said first station to a second station at a first rate of transmission. Acknowledgement data is returned from the second station to the first station to acknowledge the receipt of data packets at the second station. Data packets that are not acknowledged are retransmitted from said first station to said second station. The first station monitors retransmit information indicating how many packets are retransmitted and adjusts said rate of transmission from said first rate to a second rate in response to an output of a control procedure that receives said retransmit information as an input.

Said first data packet is retransmitted from the first station to the second station to create a second transmission, wherein said second transmission of said first data packet includes latency information indicating the time between said first transmission and said second transmission. The second station processes said latency information to determine a resend latency measurement.

Abstract: A data transmission method, wherein a first station transmits packets of data to a second station and the interval between data packet transmissions from said first station to said second station does not exceed a specified time interval, and said second station transmits packets of data to said first station and the interval between data packet transmissions from said second station to said first station does not exceed said specified time interval. Said first station identifies a preferred maximum interval of time between data packet transmissions and transmits a data packet to said second station containing a request that the interval between data packet transmissions does not exceed said preferred maximum interval.
