  • Publication number: 20060041675
Abstract: Prioritised data is transmitted in packets. The data includes first data having a first priority level and second data having a second priority level. Each transmitted packet includes a first allocation of said first data and a second allocation of said second data and the relative sizes of said first allocation and said second allocation reflect the relative priority levels of said first data and said second data.

  • Publication number: 20060039283
Abstract: Data packet transmission involves transmitting a plurality of data packets from said first station to a second station at a first rate of transmission. Acknowledgement data is returned from the second station to the first station to acknowledge the receipt of data packets at the second station. Data packets that are not acknowledged are retransmitted from said first station to said second station. The first station monitors retransmit information indicating how many packets are retransmitted and adjusts said rate of transmission from said first rate to a second rate in response to an output of a control procedure that receives said retransmit information as an input.

  • Publication number: 20060041677
Abstract: Network data transmission involves transmitting data packets from a first station for reception at a second station. The second station receives at least one of said transmitted packets in an input buffer, identifies at least one transmitted packet that has not been received as an identified non-received packet, and transmits an indication back to the first station indicating the identified non-received packet.

  • Publication number: 20060039279
Abstract: Communication occurs between a server and a terminal. The terminal establishes a first communication path with the server via a first allocated address. The server allocates an identification reference to a communication session upon initiation of said communication session. During the communication session the first communication path is closed and replaced by a second communication path with said server via a second allocated address. The server maintains said communication session after replacement of the first communication path with the second communication path by identifying said identification reference and communicating with said remote station via said second allocated address.

  • Publication number: 20060039294
Abstract: Data packet transmission involves transmitting a first data packet from a first station over a network to create a first transmission with the intention of the first transmission being received at a second station. Said first data packet is retransmitted from the first station to the second station to create a second transmission, wherein said second transmission of said first data packet includes latency information indicating the time between said first transmission and said second transmission. The second station processes said latency information to determine a resend latency measurement.

  • Publication number: 20060039302
Abstract: A data transmission method, wherein a first station transmits packets of data to a second station and the interval between data packet transmissions from said first station to said second station does not exceed a specified time interval, and said second station transmits packets of data to said first station and the interval between data packet transmissions from said second station to said first station does not exceed said specified time interval. Said first station identifies a preferred maximum interval of time between data packet transmissions and transmits a data packet to said second station containing a request that the interval between data packet transmissions does not exceed said preferred maximum interval. Said second station transmits a data packet to said first station containing a confirmation of said request, and said first station and said second station adjust said specified interval to substantially satisfy said preferred maximum interval.

  • Publication number: 20060041673
Abstract: A method of transmitting data over a network, wherein data is transmitted in packets from a first station to a second station, data is transmitted in packets from said second station to said first station, a first data packet transmitted from said first station is modified to measure connection latency, said modified first data packet is identified by said second station and a second data packet sent from said second station to said first station is also modified, and connection latency is determined at said first station with reference to (a) the time at which said first station transmitted said first modified packet, and (b) the time at which said second modified packet was received.

  • Publication number: 20060039403
Abstract: Transmitting packets of data from a first station to a second station. Each data packet conveys information of a first information type or a second information type thereby giving each an information type. Each data packet is transmitted using at least a first transmission process or a second transmission process and for each data packet a transmission process is selected in response to an indication of the information type of the information conveyed by the data packet.

  • Publication number: 20060039295
Abstract: Transmitting data over a network takes place and parameters indicating network conditions vary during the transmission. A first station identifies at least one of these parameters. The first station then adjusts the nature of the transmitted data in response to the parameter(s). Examples of network condition parameters are the rate at which data is transmitted, the amount of data in an output buffer or the connection latency of the network.

  • Publication number: 20060039350
Abstract: Re-establishing a transmission of data from a first station to a second station involves pausing transmission of data from a first station to a second station following an indication that a communication session is inactive. The first station receives an indication to the effect that the inactive session has been reestablished and that data is to be transmitted then sends only a portion of data that has not been sent.
