  • Publication number: 20240118350
Abstract: Described is a method of identifying a short-circuit (SC) like event in a circuit breaker (CB). The method comprises sampling an incoming current to the CB to determine a maximum value of a slope of a curve of the incoming current. The method includes sampling the incoming current again before a level of the incoming current reaches a predetermined, preset, selected, or calculated SC threshold value THSC for the CB. The method involves determining from the sampled incoming current that a value of the slope of the incoming current has changed from its maximum slope value to a lower slope value to thereby determine that the incoming current is indicative of a SC like event and does not comprise a real SC event.

  • Publication number: 20230290735
Abstract: An Integrated Circuit (IC) package has a ferrite-dielectric shield between a planar inductor coil and a semiconductor chip. The shield blocks Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) generated by currents in the inductor coil from reaching the semiconductor chip. The shield has a ferrite layer surrounded by upper and lower dielectric laminate layers to prevent electrical shorts. The center end of the inductor coil connects to the semiconductor chip through a center post that fits through an opening in the shield that is over the air core center of the inductor coil. The center post can connect to a die attach pad that the semiconductor chip is mounted to. Bonding wires connect pads on the semiconductor chip to lead-frame pads on lead-frame risers that end at external package connectors. The outer end of the inductor coil connects to lead-frame outer risers also having external package connectors such as pins or bonding balls.

Abstract: An Integrated Circuit (IC) package has a ferrite-dielectric shield between planar transformer coils and a semiconductor chip. The shield blocks Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) generated by currents in transformer coils from reaching the semiconductor chip. Multiple layers of planar transformer coils serve as primary or secondary coils and can be connected together in series or parallel using center posts and coil extensions from outer coil windings to lead-frame risers that also have external package connectors such as pins or bonding balls. The center winding of an upper transformer coil connects to the semiconductor chip on a die attach pad through a center post that fits through an opening in the shield that is over the air core center of the transformer coil. • Publication number: 20220337166
Abstract: A two-stage power converter has a Power-Factor Converter (PFC) and a Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter connected together by a DC link voltage. The DAB converter outputs a battery voltage with a battery current. A PFC controller divides a reference power constant by the battery voltage to get a battery current reference that is multiplied by a constant and compared to the DC link voltage to adjust Pulse-Width-Modulation (PWM) control signals to the PFC. The reference power constant is compared to the battery current during Constant-Power mode to cause a DAB controller to modulate duty ratio and phase difference between primary and secondary-side PWM control signals to the DAB converter. The DAB converter duty ratio and phase difference are modulated by comparing the battery current to a battery current limit during Constant-Current mode and by comparing the battery voltage to a battery voltage limit during Constant-Voltage mode.

  • Patent number: 11206014
Abstract: A modulator spreads the spectrum of a generated clock to reduce Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI). A capacitor is charged by a variable current to generate a ramp voltage that is compared to a reference to end a clock cycle and discharge the capacitor. An up-down counter drives a Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) that controls the variable charging current to provide triangle modulation. A smaller offset current is added or subtracted for cubic modulation when the up-down counter reaches its minimum count. A frequency divider that clocks the up-down counter also clocks a Linear-Feedback Shift-Register (LFSR) to that controls pseudo-random current sources that further modulate variable current and frequency. The LFSR is clocked with the up-down counter to modulate each frequency step, or only at the minimum count to randomly modulate at the minimum frequency. Binary-weighted bits from the up-down counter to the DAC are swapped to modulate the frequency step size.

  • Patent number: 11070045
Abstract: An Electrical Protective Device for Low-Voltage DC networks (EPDL) has a controller that on start-up first closes a mechanical relay in a ground line, waits a first delay, then closes a bipolar transistor to allow current to flow through a positive supply line, then turns on a Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (MOSFET) connected in parallel with the bipolar transistor once an output voltage reaches a minimum target. The controller reverses the start-up order to open the MOSFET, bipolar transistor, and finally the relay when an over-voltage, input-power, or integrated-current fault is detected. The output current is integrated over time and compared to a threshold, allowing for capacitor charging or other temporary over-loads. When the output voltage dips below the minimum target, the MOSFET is turned off until the voltage recovers. If the voltage does not recover within a time period, the bipolar transistor and then the relay are turned off.

  • Patent number: 11043891
Abstract: Described is a controller for an AC to DC or a DC to AC multi-phase power converter of a type having N power converter phases, where N is greater or equal to 2. The controller comprises a control module configured to change or vary a phase shift angle of the input current or output current for each of the N power converter phases such that an average phase shift value for each of said N power converter phases over a control module AC line cycle is about, near or substantially the same value. In an embodiment of an AC/DC or a DC/AC multi-phase power converter of a type having N power converter phases arranged in parallel, an advantage of arranging the average phase shift value for each power converter phase to be substantially equal or about equal over an AC line cycle is that it reduces or eliminates any imbalances in the input currents or output currents of the N power converter phases.

  • Patent number: 10528982
Abstract: An online system provides an advertisement (“ad”) request including ad content and a prompt to perform an action presented in association with the ad content. For example, the ad content is video data and the prompt for performing an action is presented after the video data is presented or after a portion of the video data is presented. An advertiser may include a custom prompt in the ad request that includes text information and instructions associated with the text information that perform an action when executed. Multiple prompts may be included in the ad request, and the online system selects a prompt based on information maintained by the online system and associated with a user to be presented with the ad content. The selected prompt is communicated to a client device for presentation in association with the ad content.
