Abstract: Apparatus and method for processing a vertical blanking interval (VBI) signal and video signal are provided. An exemplary apparatus comprises a VBI decoder, a mixer, and a TV encoder. The VBI decoder is configured to receive and decode the VBI signal to generate a decoded VBI signal. The mixer is configured to mix the video signal and decoded VBI signal to generate a mixed signal. The TV encoder is configured to encode the mixed signal to generate a first TV compatible signal for TV display. After receiving the first TV compatible signal, the TV not equipped with a VBI decoder can display the contents of the video signal and VBI signal.

Abstract: A video apparatus includes a video processor for performing video processing to generate normal video data. The video processor includes an on-screen display (OSD) module for selectively generating OSD data that is capable of being mixed into the normal video data. The video apparatus further includes a digital output path including a digital transmitter and an analog output path including a digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The video apparatus is capable of outputting OSD data through an unauthorized output path out of the digital and analog output paths to provide a user with a warning message or an interactive help dialogue.

Abstract: An image display apparatus and method are disclosed. In the present invention, image frames of various data information sizes are displayed with a selected output data information size. If the selected output data information size is below a limit of a storage medium for buffering image frames to be displayed, the data information size of an input image frame is adjusted to the output data information, and the image frame is displayed in the output data information size. If the output data information exceeds the limit of the storage medium, the input image is over-compressed to have a lower data information size. Then an image processing is performed to the image frame, so that the processed image frame is decompressed to have the output data information size before being displayed. Therefore, the decompressed image frame can be displayed in the selected output data information size.
