    Abstract: Innovations in adaptive encoding of screen content based on motion type are described. For example, a video encoder system receives a current picture of a video sequence. The video encoder system determines a current motion type for the video sequence and, based at least in part on the current motion type, sets one or more encoding parameters. Then, the video encoder system encodes the current picture according to the encoding parameter(s). The innovations can be used in real-time encoding scenarios when encoding screen content for a screen sharing application, desktop conferencing application, or other application. In some cases, the innovations allow a video encoder system to adapt compression to different characteristics of screen content at different times within the same video sequence.

    Abstract: A method of balancing workloads among processing elements (PEs) in a neural network processor can include receiving first weights and second weights of a neural network. The first and second weights are associated with a first and a second output channel (OC), respectively. A first PE computes a partial sum (PSUM) of an output activation of the first OC based on the non-zero weights in the first weights. A second PE computes a PSUM of an output activation of the second OC based on the non-zero weights in the second weights. A controller can allocate one or more non-zero weights of the first weights to the second PE for computing the PSUM of the output activation of the first OC to balance a workload.

    Abstract: A method for the non-destructive localization of underground optical fiber cables that utilizes distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) and time difference of arrival (TDOA) data associated with received signals of impulsive surface vibrations to localize the underground optical fiber cable by solving non-linear least square optimization problem(s). The method utilizes only TDOA information of received signals of impulsive surface vibrations to determine such localizations and does not require synchronization between a vibration source and DFOS receiver. The method may employ man-made impulsive vibrations to determine the localization. In operation the method involves 1) impulse-like vibration excitation and signal collection; 2) TDOA estimation of the received signals from DFOS; and 3) non-linear least square optimization applied to the TDOA information for underground optical fiber localization.

    Abstract: A temperature measuring apparatus for measuring a temperature of a substrate is described. A light emitting source that emits light signals such as laser pulses are applied to the substrate. A detector on the other side of the light emitting source receives the reflected laser pulses. The detector further receives emission signals associated with temperature or energy density that is radiated from the surface of the substrate. The temperature measuring apparatus determines the temperature of the substrate during a thermal process using the received laser pulses and the emission signals. To improve the signal to noise ratio of the reflected laser pulses, a polarizer may be used to polarize the laser pulses to have a S polarization. The angle in which the polarized laser pulses are applied towards the substrate may also be controlled to enhance the signal to noise ratio at the detector's end.
