The superconducting field winding is disposed in the vacuum vessel. A wind turbine and method are additionally disclosed. The wind turbine includes a rotor having a plurality of blades. The wind turbine further includes a shaft coupled to the rotor. Moreover, the wind turbine includes the superconducting generator coupled to the rotor via the shaft.

The first conductive trace extends along the high voltage adapter board and is conductively coupled to the input interface and the first switch. The second conductive trace extends along the high voltage adapter board and is conductively coupled to the input interface and the second switch. The controller receives inputs regarding at least one of currents and voltages provided to the electrical machine on one or more phases, analyzes the voltages and currents to identify a fault in the electrical machine, and controls switching of the plurality of switches in the inverter to modify current flow and terminal voltages in the electrical machine based on the identified fault, with the modified current flow and terminal voltages in the electrical machine preventing demagnetization of the permanent magnets in the electrical machine.

    Abstract: A load tap changer includes a mechanical switch, a semiconductor switch and an impedance branch or an uncontrolled semiconductor switch. The mechanical switch is connected to a power terminal of a voltage conversion device to carry an electric current and is activated to switch from a first tap to a second tap of the voltage conversion device when a tap change signal is received. The semiconductor switch is then connected between the first tap and the power terminal of the voltage conversion device and is disconnected before the mechanical switch is connected to the second tap. The impedance branch or the uncontrolled semiconductor switch is connected between the second tap and the power terminal of the voltage conversion device before the mechanical switch is connected to the second tap. The impedance or the uncontrolled semiconductor switch is disconnected after the mechanical switch is connected to the second tap.
