  • Patent number: 7675851
Abstract: An apparatus for communicating data is provided that includes a cell site element associated with a base transceiver station and comprising a compression module that is operable to receive a plurality of bits associated with a communications flow, to inspect the bits, to determine whether one or more samples included in the flow should be suppressed, and to compress the samples. The cell site element is coupled to a back-up device that is operable to assume responsibility for active flows in a case where a primary device fails. Data is exchanged between the primary device and the back-up device, the data guiding the back-up device in how to process the active flows.

  • Patent number: 7570662
Abstract: A method for communicating data is provided that includes receiving a plurality of bits associated with a communications flow. The method also includes configuring multiplexing for a link, which is selected for transmission of data, by using a maximum fragment parameter associated with the link. The maximum fragment parameter is used as an upper limit whereby if the maximum fragment parameter is smaller than a maximum multiplex parameter, an incoming packet is multiplexed only to the maximum fragment parameter size such that multiplexed packets are not fragmented.

  • Patent number: 7564381
Abstract: A method for compressing information is provided that includes receiving a plurality of bits associated with a communications flow and determining if a match exists between the plurality of bits and a selected one of a plurality of bit patterns. A header bit segment that corresponds to the selected bit pattern may be communicated in place of the plurality of bits associated with the communications flow.

  • Patent number: 7460516
Abstract: A method for compressing data is provided that includes receiving a packet communicated by a mobile station and extracting a high-level data link control (HDLC) payload from the packet. A compression operation may then be performed on the HDLC payload in order to reduce a number of bytes associated with the packet. A key may be built that maps the HDLC payload associated with the packet to the key, the key being broken into segments that are positioned into a selected one or more of a source internet protocol (IP) address field, a user datagram protocol (UDP) source port field, and a UDP destination port field of a UDP packet. Remaining fields of the HDLC payload may be copied and positioned into a payload field of the UDP packet. The UDP packet may then be communicated to a routing functionality such that it may be directed to a next destination.

  • Patent number: 7372843
Abstract: A method for compressing data is provided that includes receiving a communications flow communicated by a mobile station and communicating with a proxy element in order to determine if an incoming packet is associated with an internet protocol (IP). The method also includes performing a mapping between a non-IP based protocol associated with the incoming packet and an IP protocol in cases where the incoming packet is non-IP based in order to generate an IP compatible packet to be processed by a forwarding path element and communicated to a next destination.

  • Patent number: 7362721
Abstract: An apparatus for providing fault and error tolerance in a network environment is provided that includes an aggregation node associated with a base station controller and operable to receive a packet that includes an error. A portion of the packet is discarded, the packet being associated with a communications flow. The aggregation node being further operable to perform a selected one of injecting a subframe into the communications flow and playing one or more previous frame bits from a frame memory in response to the error.

  • Patent number: 7317724
Abstract: Performing compression includes receiving at a compressor a flow comprising packets, where each packet has a packet identifier. The packet identifiers are associated with a predetermined increment, but any change in the predetermined increment is ignored. The packets are compressed, and the flow is transmitted to a decompressor.

  • Patent number: 7236461
Abstract: In a communication network, link efficiency modules aggregate packets into multiplexed packets to provide efficient use of communication links. To handle varying levels of network traffic, the link efficiency modules provide multiple modes of operation to balance bandwidth efficiency against packet latency.

  • Patent number: 7221684
Abstract: A communication device for compressing packets includes a first interface, a grouping module and a second interface. The first interface receives packets from a group of media streams, the grouping module generates a group packet that includes a group identifier as well as the payloads of the packets, and the second interface communicates the group packet for receipt by a remote device. A communication device for decompressing packets includes a memory, an interface, and a processor. The memory stores state information for a group of media streams, the interface receives a group packet carrying payloads from the media streams, and the processor reconstructs the headers of the packets using the state information.
