  • Patent number: 7536983
Abstract: An internal combustion engine has a cylinder with a combustion chamber delimited by a reciprocating piston that drives a crankshaft rotatably supported in a crankcase. The internal combustion engine has an intake passage, an exhaust connected to the combustion chamber, a device supplying fuel, and a control device controlling at least one operating parameter of the internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine is operated in that a pressure is measured in operation of the internal combustion engine, an adjustable value for at least one operating parameter of the internal combustion engine is deteremined based on the measured pressure, and the determined adjustable value is set for optimized running of the engine.

  • Patent number: 7250709
Abstract: A piezoelectric actuator for media flowing around it having a piezo stack which is arranged within a deformable isolating material so as to be in direct contact therewith at least over certain regions. The isolating material is for its part enclosed by a fluidically closed actuator housing, which is formed by a housing shell which is delimited at its one end by a dimensionally stable actuator top and at its other end by a dimensionally stable actuator bottom. The actuator top and bottom are arranged on the active main surfaces of the piezo stack. To increase the service life, the housing shell is produced from a limp and/or elastic material and is disposed at a distance from the piezo stack. The length of the housing shell, measured along the surface line, corresponds at least to the maximum extent of the piezo stack and/or the housing shell can be stretched accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20060082252
Abstract: A method for determining the position of a movable shut-off element, in particular a valve needle, of an injection valve in a motor vehicle engine. The shut-off element is driven by means of a piezo element for the opening or closing of the injection valve. A voltage signal assigned to an electrical voltage detected at the piezo element is determined and used for determining the position of the shut-off element. By means of a model, a modelled variation of the voltage is determined and is likewise used for determining the position of the shut-off element. In particular, the determination of the position of the shut-off element takes place by using the difference from the modelled variation of the voltage and the determined voltage signal.

  • Patent number: 6986339
Abstract: Method for operating an internal combustion engine in which fuel is injected into a combustion chamber by an injector. The injector has a drivable piezo-actuator. A setpoint value is generated for driving the piezo-actuator. A setpoint charge quantity (QCsetpoint) is determined from the setpoint value, and an actual charge quantity (QCactual) supplied to the piezo-actuator is determined. The setpoint charge quantity (QCsetpoint) and the actual charge quantity (QCactual) are combined, and the combined result (Son) acts upon the drive circuit of the piezo-actuator.
