  • Patent number: 9374268
Abstract: A device arrangement for a network includes a plurality of devices that can be actuated electronically by a user. Each device has a name memory in which is stored a device name uniquely assigned to the device, to enable the particular device to be uniquely actuated within the network. The device name stored in the name memory can be individually selected and/or changed by the user by a mobile input unit that has a short-range electronic data link to the device to be selected.

    Assignee: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS N.V.
Inventors: Wolfgang Otto Budde, Tobias Helbig
  • Patent number: 8054781
Abstract: Wireless networks in ISM bands are usually established by placing access points that link terminals to each other and to networks. This situation may pose problems when networks are established individually without coordination, for example, in different apartments of apartment buildings. According to the present invention, access points establish a communication channel, linking each other, to cooperatively coordinate and optimize the use of frequencies/channels. Advantageously, interferences occurring in such networks may be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20060168342
Abstract: A device arrangement for a network, and particularly a home network (1), comprises a plurality of devices (2) that can be actuated electronically by a user, and particularly consumer electronics devices, building control devices, home entertainment electronics devices and/or network control devices. Each device (2) has a name memory (6) in which is stored a device name uniquely assigned to the device (2), to enable the particular device (2) to be uniquely actuated within the network (1). The device name stored in the name memory (6) can be individually selected and/or changed by the user by means of a mobile input unit (3) that has a short-range electronic data link to a device (2).

  • Publication number: 20060045271
Abstract: The invention relates to a security system for wireless networks, comprising a portable unit (1) with a key unit (3) for making a key record (4, 17, 104) available and being provided for short-range information transmission of the key record (4, 17, 104). At least one wireless apparatus (2) of the network is provided with a receiving unit (7) comprising a receiver (9) for receiving the key record (4, 17, 104) and an evaluation component (11) of the apparatus for storing, processing and/or passing on the key record (4, 17, 104) or a part of the key record to a second component. Due to the key record, the apparatuses of the wireless network acquire a secret shared key with which the encryption and decryption of the transmitted useful data and/or the authentication is performed. The unit (101) may further comprise a reading device (107) for a chip card (108), which chip card (108) preferably comprises the decoding key record (104) of copy-protected digital data.

  • Publication number: 20040168166
Abstract: A network system supports distributed applications that execute on networked devices. The system provides a uniform modeling and implementation method and system that are particularly suited to use in digital in-home networks. For example, the invention may be applied to support the interoperation of various digital consumer electronics devices, such as TV, receivers, tuners, digital storage, and a personal computer interconnected by a home network. The method and system help to realize the potential of networked devices by providing for rich interoperation that combines the functionalities of different devices and allows for expansion and upgrade by providing a uniform scheme for controlling the interaction among the attached devices.

  • Patent number: 6253245
Abstract: A transmission system includes multiple network elements for the transmission of a plurality of data units from at least one network element having a data source, to at least one further network element that has a data sink and a data buffer. Transmission systems of this kind are used for the composition of news items in a news broadcast studio or for the remote transmission of video sequences. Very strict requirements are then imposed on the data transmission, notably as regards the temporal control of the data transmission, in order to achieve real-time, interference-free data output via the data sink. Therefore, means is provided for temporal control of the data transmission from the data source to the data buffer, and for the temporal control, independently of the former, of the data transmission from the data buffer (11) to the data sink.

  • Patent number: 6233241
Abstract: A transmission system having a plurality of network elements arranged in a tree-like hierarchical structure, and which includes means for the management and allocation of resources to the network elements. Such a system may be a communication and data transmission network consisting of a plurality of users having distributed databases. In order to enhance the efficiency and transmission speed in such a transmission system, according to the invention network elements which are situated along a resource path (P) store only the course of such resource path, but not the possessors and states of resources in lower hierarchical levels of the system.
