  • Patent number: 9509867
Abstract: An image processing system identifies desired views of a particular subject and triggers a mobile camera device in proximity to the subject to capture a digital image, thus collecting new image data to augment an existing database. In an exemplary method, location data for a camera-equipped mobile communication device in visual proximity to a subject of interest is received at an image collection server. Upon determining whether the location data corresponds to a desired view of the subject of interest, the image collection server sends an image capture request to the mobile device, triggering the user of the device to capture an image of the subject. Finally, digital image data is received from the mobile communication device in response to the image capture request. The digital image data may then be used for assembling a composite representation of the subject of interest, such as a 3D model of the subject.

  • Patent number: 9009210
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for distributing multimedia files units are disclosed. In an exemplary method, a plurality of multimedia files are downloaded using a transportation provider wireless device associated with a fare-based transport vehicle, such as a taxi, bus, ferry, or airplane. The downloaded multimedia files are stored in a data storage unit operatively connected to the transportation provider wireless device. In response to passenger input data received from a passenger wireless device, a desired multimedia file selected by the passenger is transferred to the passenger wireless device or played back using local speakers and/or video displays. • Publication number: 20130083711
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing received signals in a multi-carrier system are disclosed. An exemplary method includes estimating one or more first propagation channel coefficients based on a training sequence in each of one or more first slots received over a first radio channel, equalizing signal samples from one or more second slots received over a second radio channel immediately frequency-adjacent to the first radio channel, using the first propagation channel coefficients, and demodulating user data bits from the equalized signal samples. In some embodiments, the training sequence is located at a fixed position in each of the one or more first slots and user data bits are demodulated from a directly corresponding position in each of the second slots. Improved data rates are thus achieved by constraining radio carriers in a multi-carrier system to frequency-adjacent channels and eliminating training symbols from one of the signals.

  • Patent number: 8385865
Abstract: The wireless receiver of the present invention accommodates dual-carrier Evolved EDGE without significantly impacting existing receiver architectures. The inventive receiver comprises a shared local oscillator and two image-rejecting downconverters. The local oscillator generates a local oscillator frequency between two carrier frequencies of adjacent radio channels. The receiver receives a signal in each of the adjacent radio channels. In a dual-carrier mode, a first image-rejecting downconverter uses the local oscillator frequency to downconvert a first signal received in the first radio channel while rejecting a second signal received in the second radio channel. A second image-rejecting downconverter uses the local oscillator frequency to downconvert the second signal while rejecting the first signal.

  • Patent number: 8102810
Abstract: The wireless communication device and corresponding method described herein selectively switches between a single-frequency mode, such as appropriate for an EDGE network, and a multiple-frequency mode, such as appropriate for a multi-carrier EDGE network. Accordingly, a transmitting wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel mapping unit, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel mapping unit, used during the multiple-frequency mode. The multi-channel mapping unit modulates input data to output a modulated data stream for each of multiple adjacent frequency channels that, when combined, produce a multiple-frequency signal with reduced peak-to-average ratio. A receiving wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel demodulator, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel demodulator, used during the multiple-frequency mode.

  • Patent number: 7894535
Abstract: Video distribution methods include providing a primary video data stream having a first image size and formatted in a first video display format. A transmission data stream is formed having a plurality of blocks of data including at least first and second data fields. The first data field includes a secondary video data stream extracted from the primary video data stream and is formatted for display in a second video format. The second data field includes supplemental data extracted from the primary video data stream and configured to provide, when combined with the data of the first data field, a tertiary video data stream formatted for display in a third video format. The transmission data stream is multicasted from a wireless communication transmitter to a plurality of wireless communication terminals. Wireless communication terminals and systems are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7711387
Abstract: A system and method of re-distributing power output by a portable mobile communications device while operating in dual transfer mode (DTM) is disclosed. The device determines if more than one uplink slot is active and if DTM is active. If so, power can be separately regulated for packet switched and carrier switched uplink slots. The device determines whether the circuit switched slot is being used for a voice call that is not in a handsfree or speakerphone mode and evaluates factors associated with the current operating conditions. New power settings are calculated based on the mode for the active circuit switched slot and the factors associated with the current operating conditions of the device. The new power settings are then applied to the active uplink slots such that power is re-distributed on a per slot basis that is not necessarily divided equally among all active slots.

  • Publication number: 20100093389
Abstract: A mobile terminal includes a GSM transceiver, a UMTS transceiver, and a controller. The GSM transceiver communicates via a GSM radio communication interface. The UMTS transceiver communicates via a UMTS radio communication interface. The controller is configured to select and register with a UMTS cell provided by a UMTS radio network controller, to store UMTS cell data defining a snapshot of communication characteristics of the selected UMTS cell, to respond to having registered with the selected UMTS cell by monitoring a GSM control channel via the GSM transceiver for an incoming paging request transmitted by a GSM base station controller, and to respond to receipt of the paging request from the GSM base station controller by using the stored UMTS cell data to assist in setting up a corresponding call via the UMTS transceiver and the selected UMTS cell through the UMTS radio network controller and a UMTS core network.

  • Publication number: 20100069009
Abstract: The dual-mode processor and corresponding method described herein selectively switches between a single-frequency mode, such as appropriate for an EDGE network, and a multiple-frequency mode, such as appropriate for a multi-carrier EDGE network. The pulse-shaping filters used during the multiple-frequency mode have a different filter response than the single-channel filter used during the single-frequency mode. The filter response of the pulse-shaping filters used during the multiple-frequency mode reduces cross-channel interference caused by the data symbols of two or more adjacent frequency channels that have the same or similar modulation and power level.
