  • Patent number: 7949417
Abstract: The solution from a multivariable predictive controller (MPC) is analyzed and described by providing quantitative input to operators regarding the effect of changing controller limits on the MPC controller solution. This information allows a rapid operator response to changes and more optimal process operation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 22, 2006
Date of Patent: May 24, 2011
Assignee: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company
Inventors: Tod J. Peterson, Adi R. Punuru, Kenneth F. Emigholz, Robert K. Wang, Dave Barrett-Payton
  • Patent number: 7797063
Abstract: A method is presented for adjusting the steady-state gains of a multivariable predictive control, planning or optimization model with uncertainty. The user selects a desired matrix relative gain criteria for the predictive model or sub-model. This is used to calculate a base number. Model gains are extracted from the predictive model and the magnitudes are modified to be rounded number powers of the calculated base number.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 14, 2007
Date of Patent: September 14, 2010
Assignee: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company
Inventors: Roger S. Hall, Adi R. Punuru, Tod J. Peterson, Trevor S. Pottorf, Lewis E. Vowell
