Patent number: 9241695Abstract: The present invention provides a patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure clip. The clips of the present invention include two closure members joined by at least two spaced central connecting members. Each of the at least two spaced central connecting members is attached to each closure member at a location on the periphery of the closure member. The clips are designed such that the at least two central connecting members extend through the inclined PFO tunnel and the two closure members compress the overlapping layers of septal tissue, i.e. septum primum and septum secundum, together to close the PFO tunnel. The clips of the present invention take various forms depending, in part, upon the distribution of force required to close a given PFO. Thus, in some embodiments, the closure members include arcuate peaks. In other embodiments, the closure members include loops. In still other embodiments, the closure members include prongs.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2003Date of Patent: January 26, 2016Assignee: W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventors: Todd A. Peavey, Sean T. Forde, Andrzej J. Chanduszko, David J. Callaghan

Publication number: 20130296928Abstract: A coupling system is disposed at the distal end of an interventional delivery system for coupling to an implant. The coupling device has a first and second prong connected at one end. The other end of the prongs open or close to release or trap an object, e.g., a bead tethered from an implant. A slot at the distal end of the coupling device allows extra degrees of flexibility for the coupling device.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2013Publication date: November 7, 2013Inventors: Steven W. Opolski, Todd A. Peavey

Patent number: 7963952Abstract: An expandable catheter accommodates a medical device that is being removed from a body with a larger diameter than the catheter. The same catheter may be used to reposition a device within the body to an alternative delivery site. A catheter or sheath may be used to deliver a medical device, surgical instrument, or biological sample.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2004Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Inventors: John A. Wright, Jr., Todd A. Peavey, Andrea B. Kolber, Lee A. Core

Publication number: 20090278707Abstract: A wear monitor for footgear can indicate when a shoe or component may have exceeded its expected useful life. The indication can be triggered by a measure of use, such as steps taken or distance accrued in the shoes, either through estimation or actual measurements. The monitor can take into account varies parameters related to the individual wearer of the shoe and environmental factors to more accurately determine when a pair of shoes has reached a wear out period. By employing sensors, the monitor can also be measure certain operating parameters of the shoe, such as the loss of a critical amount of resilience, and indicating to the wearer that the shoes are no longer adequate to protect the wearer from injury. The wear monitor can be fabricated into the shoe during manufacturing or can be a portable stand-alone device and can employ various technologies to provide a status indication to the wearer.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 13, 2007Publication date: November 12, 2009Applicant: SENTIAL, LLCInventors: James F. Patent number: 7473240Abstract: An improved valve port system provides blood access in a patient through a subcutaneous fluid flow conduit during a dialysis procedure. The system includes several elements, including a engagement member defined by a tubular body having a proximal end, a distal end and a tubular lumen therebetween. The distal end has a tapered bevel defined thereat and a tapered protrusion proximate thereto defined upon an exterior surface of the tubular body. In addition, the system provides a dialysis port member having a housing with a generally cylindrical valve rotatably positioned therein. The valve includes an open end, a closed end and an orifice near the closed end. The valve further includes a longitudinal groove defined along an interior surface thereof. The groove, which is capable of being in registry with the protrusion, is coincident with the protrusion so as to intussuscept the protrusion therein.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2003Date of Patent: January 6, 2009Assignee: Navilyst Medical, Inc.Inventor: Todd Peavey

Publication number: 20050234543Abstract: A plug or insert occludes the left atrial appendage (LAA), thus preventing blood from entering. The plug is formed in one piece without separately movable parts, and may be monolithic. A drug coating can be provided, with or without a plug.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2005Publication date: October 20, 2005Applicant: NMT Medical, Inc.Inventors: Erik Glaser, Todd Peavey

Publication number: 20050234540Abstract: Devices and methods are provided for opening the entrance (ostium) of the left atrial appendage to increase blood flow and thereby reduce the likelihood of thrombus formation therein by decreasing blood stagnation. The device can include a stent, an expandable foam, or a balloon anchor component, and can be provided in such a way so as to leave no implant behind.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 10, 2005Publication date: October 20, 2005Applicant: NMT Medical, Inc.Inventors: Todd Peavey, Andrzej Chanduszko
