  • Publication number: 20050137512
Abstract: This invention is directed to advanced hemorrhage control wound dressings, and methods of using and producing same. The subject wound dressing is constructed from a non-mammalian material for control of severe bleeding. The wound dressing for controlling severe bleeding is formed of a biomaterial comprising chitosan, a hydrophilic polymer, a polyacrylic polymer or a combination thereof. The kind of severe, life-threatening bleeding contemplated by this invention is typically of the type not capable of being stanched when a conventional gauze wound dressing is applied with conventional pressure to the subject wound. The wound dressing being capable of substantially stanching the flow of the severe life-threatening bleeding from the wound by adhering to the wound site, to seal the wound, to accelerate blood clot formation at the wound site, to reinforce clot formation at the wound site and prevent bleed out from the wound site, and to substantially prohibit the flow of blood out of the wound site.

  • Publication number: 20050095267
Abstract: Implantable medical devices having a nanoparticle coating applied thereon. The nanoparticle coating comprises nanopulverized antiproliferative compounds. More specifically, the nanoparticulate antiproliferative compounds comprise particles less than 500 nm in size. The nanoparticle size of the compounds improves compounds' solubility. In addition to improving the solubility of otherwise insoluable antiproliferative compounds, the nanoparticle size minimizes the preparation and formulation required to prepare a dose of the antiproliferative compounds.

  • Publication number: 20050055078
Abstract: The stent with an outer slough coating 125 of the present invention provides a coated stent having a permanent coating 130 disposed on the stent and a slough coating 125 disposed on the permanent coating 130. The permanent coating 130 includes an anti-proliferative agent and the slough coating 125 includes an anti-inflammatory agent. The slough coating 125 erodes shortly after stent implantation to deliver the anti-inflammatory agent, which treats tissue trauma from the angioplasty and the presence of the stent. Once the slough coating 125 has substantially eroded, the permanent coating 130 delivers the anti-proliferative agent long-term to prevent tissue growth on the stent or within the body lumen, and prevent restenosis. The permanent coating 130 can also include an anti-inflammatory agent.

  • Publication number: 20050021128
Abstract: The invention provides a compliant, porous, rolled stent, comprising a stent framework configured as a rhomboid having two short sides and two long sides. The stent framework includes a plurality of slits formed parallel to the short sides of the rhomboid, edge portions adjacent to the long sides of the rhomboid being unslit. The stent framework is rolled at an angle such that the long sides of the rhomboid overlap one another to form a tubular structure. The tubular structure has a spiral backbone formed by the unslit edge portions adjacent to the long sides of the rhomboid. The short sides of the rhomboid form the proximal and distal ends of the stent.

  • Publication number: 20030139800
Abstract: The stent assembly with exterior banding for delivery of therapeutic agents of the present invention comprises a stent and drug coated bands located circumferentially around the stent. The width of the bands allows free flow of blood or other fluids to side branch lumens within the body. Positioning the bands on the abluminal surface prevents the intrusion of the bands into the inner diameter of the stent, thus optimizing patency. The therapeutic agent can vary from band to band, or different therapeutic agents can be included at different radial locations within the band. In an alternate embodiment, the stent assembly can comprise a stent and one or more helical wraps around the stent, the helical wraps including one or more therapeutic agent.
