  • Patent number: 11931833
Abstract: Systems and methods for welding asset tracking are disclosed. In some examples, a welding asset tracking system may comprise an asset tracking network of tags, hubs, and/or gateways retained by welding assets within a welding area. The asset tracking network may obtain and/or communicate to an asset tracking server welding data related to one or more of the welding assets, as well as position data obtained via an internal and/or external positioning system. In this way, the welding asset tracking server may continually receive updated information regarding each welding assets identity, location, and/or use. The asset tracking server may additionally send a command to a selected welding asset that causes an interface of the selected welding asset to emit an output that enables an operator to physically identify the welding asset.

  • Publication number: 20240082943
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for welding asset tracking with heartbeat monitoring are disclosed. In some examples, a welding asset tracking system may comprise an asset tracking network of tags, hubs, and/or gateways retained by welding assets within a welding area. The welding asset tracking system may generate heartbeat signals that certain welding assets may require for normal operation, so as to ensure the welding assets are used in appropriate welding contexts and/or welding areas. In some examples, information obtained from the asset tracking network may be used to determine whether one or more heartbeat signals should be discontinued.

  • Publication number: 20210060686
Abstract: Systems and methods for welding asset movement tracking are disclosed. In some examples, a welding asset tracking system may comprise an asset tracking network of tags, hubs, and/or gateways retained by welding assets within a welding area. Directions of travel of monitored assets may be determined by comparing the order in which assets are identified by the asset tracking network. The travel directions, travel paths, and/or ingress and egress of tracked assets from welding areas are stored for subsequent analysis and/or retrieval. Additionally or alternatively, functionality of tracked assets may be disabled and/or enabled based on whether the assets are authorized to be removed from a designated area.

  • Publication number: 20100006552
Abstract: A short circuit arc welding system is disclosed. The control scheme uses a current command signal comprised of a long-term current command that sets the long-term current command level and a real-time or short-by-short current command to drive the output current. Feedback is used to determine if the desired arc length is present and to adjust the long-term command. The short-by-short current command is derived from real-time arc current feedback and is used to control the burn-off rate by adjustment of the current command. The short being about to clear is detected in real time. When the process is ending a very low current level is provided to avoid forming a ball. If a short is created, after the low current level, a burst of energy is provided to clear of burn off the short. After the short is cleared, very low current is again provided to avoid forming a large ball, until the wire stops and the process ends.

  • Publication number: 20080149600
Abstract: A method and apparatus for MIG welding is disclosed. When in an ac mode the output is unbalanced, or the balance may be controlled. The balance may be controlled to provide a desired deposition rate and/or to obtain a desired dilution. The frequency may be any frequency, for example 30 Hz, 60 Hz, 90 Hz, or more. The weld path may have groove with angle of less than 50 degrees. A consumable, cored, wire may be used, and provide at rates of 30 or 35 pounds per hour using a single arc. In various embodiments the balance may have a negative portion of at least 1.5 times the positive portion. The process may be started using an extended negative portion, for example 0.5 or 0.75 seconds.
