    Abstract: A transfer switch includes first terminals adapted to input power from a first power source, second terminals adapted to input power from a second power source, third terminals adapted to output power to a first load, and a transfer mechanism adapted to selectively electrically connect the one of the first or second terminals to the third terminals. A control mechanism cooperates with the first and second terminals and the transfer mechanism to electrically connect one of the first and third terminals or the second and third terminals. A control circuit and a relay include normally closed contacts and normally open contacts. The relay is de-energized responsive to the first and third terminals being electrically connected, and energized responsive to the second and third terminals being electrically connected. The normally closed contacts shed corresponding second loads and the normally open contacts enable corresponding third loads when the relay is energized.

    Abstract: A control system for a power distribution system includes electrical operators each of which has an open input, a close input and an operator member adapted to cooperate with a corresponding circuit breaker operating mechanism. Each operator member responds to the corresponding open input to actuate the operating mechanism and open the corresponding circuit breaker, and responds to the corresponding close input to actuate the operating mechanism and close the corresponding circuit breaker. A control circuit includes an input for a normal power source, an input for an emergency power source, open outputs electrically connected to the open inputs of the corresponding electrical operators, and close outputs electrically connected to the close inputs of the corresponding electrical operator. The control circuit delays one or more of the close outputs or inhibits one or more of the close outputs after a transfer switch output switches to the emergency source.

    Abstract: A control circuit operates a dual directional DC motor from an AC power source. A controller has first and second position indication inputs adapted to receive respective first and second position indications. The controller also has first and second direction outputs, which respectively energize one of two first relay coils having contacts outputting respective AC voltages responsive to the direction outputs. A full wave bridge rectifier receives the AC voltage and responsively outputs a DC voltage, which energizes a second relay coil. A contact thereof directs that voltage to two sets of first relay contacts, which are also responsive to the direction outputs, and which respectively provide a positive or negative DC voltage to the motor. Another second relay coil contact provides a braking action to the motor responsive to removal of the DC voltage from the rectifier output following removal of the AC voltage to the rectifier.

    Abstract: A multi-mode transfer switch selectively operates in a first operating mode in which the utility source alone is connected to the load bus, a second operating mode in which only the microturbine is connected to the load bus, and a third operating mode in which both sources are connected to the load bus in parallel. The microturbine is commanded to operate in a voltage mode when connected alone to the load bus and in a current mode when connected in parallel with the utility source. If the utility source fails while operating in parallel with the microturbine, the utility source is disconnected from the load bus and the microturbine is reconfigured in a voltage mode. The transfer controller sends a wake-up signal to the microturbine upon loss of power for starting and providing power to the load bus.

    Abstract: A circuit breaker includes a housing, an operating mechanism and separable main contacts, and a rotatable crossbar which rotates to open and close the contacts. The crossbar interacts by way of a protrusion thereon with a rotatable, positive off-link. A handle mechanism is disposed in the housing and has a handle protruding from the housing which is normally movable from a closed to open disposition. However, if the operating mechanism has reacted in such a way as to open the separable main contacts but, in fact, they have not opened because, for example, they are welded shut, the protrusion on the crossbar will interact with the positive off-link and prevent the handle mechanism from moving to the opened position thus warning personnel that the contacts have not opened.
