Publication number: 20070284844Abstract: A system for providing an automated axial force to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in a wheelchair. An electronic transmission control receives one or more input signals generated by throttle position or other variables. The microprocessor generates an output signal that adjusts the axial force applied to a CVT thereby automatically adjusting the input to output ratio. The invention also provides a manually-controlled variator is designed for use on a wheelchair. The manual shifter hydraulically adjusts an axial force imparted on a variator in communication with a wheelchair wheel and a hand rim. Application of the axial force causes the hand rim input and wheelchair wheel output ratio to change, permitting a wheelchair operator to manually adjust the input to output ratio to more easily operate the wheelchair.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2007Publication date: December 13, 2007Inventors: David Miles, Todd Peters

Publication number: 20060163078Abstract: A method for simultaneously electroplating exposed conductor regions on both sides of a disk drive suspension component by providing an electroplating system having a bath of electroplating solution with first and second anodes in the bath. The suspension component is positioned in the bath of electroplating solution between the first and second anodes. A first electroplating current is produced between the first anode and the exposed conductor regions on the first surface of the component. A second electroplating current is produced between the second anode and the exposed conductor regions on the second surface. Layers of conductive material are thereby plated onto the exposed conductor regions on both sides of the component. By controlling parameters of the first and second plating currents, such as time and magnitude, the layers of conductive material can be plated to the same or different thicknesses on the opposite sides of the conductors.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 25, 2006Publication date: July 27, 2006Applicant: Hutchinson Technology IncorporatedInventor: Todd Peter

Patent number: 7017044Abstract: An extremely secure method for keying source contents to a source storage medium provided to prevent use of unauthorized copies at minimal cost. The host processor combines a unique, immutable and verifiable physical attribute of a hard disk drive, i.e., the drive's defect list, with the content to be secured to write a corresponding fingerprinted encrypted content on a source medium. When a local processor wants to use the sanctioned source content, the fingerprinted content is read from a local storage medium. The local processor then decrypts and separates the defect list out of the source content and reads the local storage medium defect list. If the decrypted defect list matches the local storage medium defect list, then the local processor recognizes the local sanctioned medium and continues processing the source contents. Otherwise, a non-matching defect list indicates an unauthorized copy from the source to the local storage medium.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2000Date of Patent: March 21, 2006Assignee: Maxtor CorporationInventors: Christopher M.
