System and method for detecting electrostatic discharge events in an imaging device having a scanner
Patent number: 10171684Abstract: A method for detecting electrostatic discharge (ESD) events in an imaging device includes scanning a target placed in a scanner to create a scanned image of the target. The scanned image has a plurality of scan lines with each scan line having a number of pixels or samples. For each of the plurality of scan lines, a determination is whether or not the number of pixels or samples of the scan line matches a respective predetermined number of pixels or samples, the predetermined number of pixels or samples being based upon a resolution setting of the scanner. Upon determining that the number of pixels or samples of the scan line does not match the predetermined number of pixels or samples, a count value is incremented. The count value is used as a healthcheck data to indicate at least one ESD event has occurred in the imaging device.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2017Date of Patent: January 1, 2019Assignee: LEXMARK INTERNATIONAL, INC.Inventors: Phillip Daniel Erwin, John Thomas Fessler, Keith Bryan Hardin, Michael Todd Phillips, Kark Mark Thompson -

Patent number: 8348131Abstract: Various forms of surgical instruments are disclosed. In various embodiments, the instrument includes a cartridge supporting assembly for operably supporting a staple cartridge therein. The cartridge supporting assembly may be responsive to firing and retraction motions applied thereto from a firing assembly. An anvil may be operably coupled to an anvil closure assembly. The anvil closure assembly may be constructed to selectively move the anvil in a proximal direction toward the cartridge supporting assembly to enable a portion of tissue to be clamped between a cartridge supported by the cartridge supporting assembly and the anvil under a predetermined amount of compression. The device may further include a closure actuator that operably interacts with the anvil closure assembly such that as the closure actuator is moved in a first direction, the anvil closure assembly causes the anvil to move in the proximal direction to increase the compression of the tissue between the staple cartridge and the anvil.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2006Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc.Inventors: Todd Phillip Omaits, Bennie Thompson, Frederick E. Patent number: 7304816Abstract: In a method for predicting failure of a disc drive during operation of the disc drive, a write fault count is maintained that corresponds to write faults encountered during write operations to a disc of the disc drive. Additionally, a frequency domain representation of a position error signal of a head of the disc drive is obtained. Finally, failure of the disc drive is predicted based on the write fault count and the frequency domain representation of the position error signal. Another aspect of the present invention relates to a disc drive that is capable of performing the above-described method.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2005Date of Patent: December 4, 2007Assignee: Seagate Technology LLCInventors: Cary Dean Johnson, Gary Gang Jing, Matthew Edward Hastings, Todd Phillip Fracek, Paul William Burnett, Feng Li, Wei-Hua Lin
