  • Publication number: 20060036485
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for presenting personalized information to consumers in a retail environment. A personalized price is determined for at least one product that is in physical proximity to the customer. The physical proximity may be determined, for example, by evaluating identifiers, such as RFID tags, associated with each customer and product. A personalized message can be also presented to a customer regarding at least one product that is in physical proximity to the customer. The personalized message can provide, for example, dietary or safety information relevant to the customer and at least one product in the proximity of the customer. The personalized information may be determined based on one or more personalized message rules.

  • Publication number: 20050096985
Abstract: A system and method allow store personnel to perform most checkout and automated payment (e.g., credit and debit cards) at any location in the store. One or more projectors, cameras and activation devices, are connected to the store network through wires or by wireless. The sales person would signify that a customer is ready to check out by using a small device, like a clicker or push button carried on their person. A projector and a camera, networked to the existing store Point-of-Sale (POS) system, locates the sales person and then, using certain algorithms, locates a blank space (on a wall or a table, for example) and displays the standard Point-of-Sale (POS) application. The camera monitors movements and allows the sales person to use the application interactively in the same manner as if he or she were at the actual check out counter using a computer terminal.

  • Publication number: 20050097064
Abstract: Products that are priced by weight are detected and identified by type by a camera. The camera is used to determine as the total size (volume) of the product. Total density of the product is found by using a look up table in a database, relating size to weight for each product. The total price is then calculated by multiplying total weight by the unit price. This method and apparatus can be applied both to cashier-assisted check out and to self-checkout, whereby the self-checkout customer need only place the product on the moving conveyor in order for pricing to occur.
