Patent number: 11668115Abstract: A button assembly for a door lock may include a button and a shank. The button may be toollessly couplable to the shank to allow force transmission between the button and the shank. The button may transfer linear force and torque along a longitudinal axis of the button to the shank to allow a state of an associated lock body to be changed.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2020Date of Patent: June 6, 2023Assignee: Sargent Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Brian R. Patent number: 11326371Abstract: A tool for adjusting the backset of a latch bolt. The latch bolt includes a latch bolt and a tailpiece. A housing receives the latch bolt and includes a transversely extending protrusion. A casing slidably receives the housing such that the protrusion on the housing is received in a slot on the casing and an inner end of the tailpiece extends from the housing and casing. The casing is rotated relative to the housing to allow relative axial movement between the casing and the housing when transitioning between the first backset position and the second backset position. The tool includes a member defining a first slot for receiving the inner end of the tailpiece and a pair of second slots for receiving the pair of ears such that rotation of the tool rotates the tailpiece and the casing simultaneously.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2018Date of Patent: May 10, 2022Assignee: ASSA ABLOY Access and Egress Hardware Group, Inc.Inventors: William S. Patent number: 10006226Abstract: A latch assembly comprises a latch bolt and a tailpiece including a first tailpiece member mounted to the latch bolt and a second tailpiece member. The second tailpiece member is movably received in a bore of the first tailpiece member and operably connected to a latch operator. The second tailpiece member is received in one of two axially spaced recesses in the bore in a first backset position and a second backset position. Relative axial movement between the first tailpiece member and the second tailpiece member is prevented in a first relative rotational position in the first backset position and in a second relative rotational position in the second backset position, and relative axial movement is allowed in a third relative rotational position to allow the second tailpiece member to be moved between the first backset position and the second backset position.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2016Date of Patent: June 26, 2018Assignee: YALE SECURITY INC.Inventors: Christopher Hill, Todd Zimmer, Brian R. Patent number: 9890564Abstract: An interconnected lock for use on a door, where the lock has adjustable offset spacing between a deadbolt and latchbolt. The lock includes first and second shafts for actuating the deadbolt lock mechanism, at different offset spacings. A linkage arm connected to and moveable by the latchbolt actuator is alternately connectable to rotate either the first or second deadbolt-actuating shaft. The linkage arm has first and second upper positions, for alternate connection to rotate the first and second deadbolt-actuating shafts, respectively. Upon operation of the interior actuator, the linkage arm moves the deadbolt along the second axis from the latched to the unlatched position at the same time that the operation of the interior actuator moves the latchbolt along the first axis from the latched to the unlatched position.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2015Date of Patent: February 13, 2018Assignee: Sargent Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Wai P. Wong, Pavel Farias, Gregg Krehel, Brian Fournier, Todd Zimmer

Publication number: 20070176435Abstract: A return spring assembly for returning a handle to the horizontal orientation includes a spring housing having an outer flange that contacts an outer surface of a door around the perimeter of a bored opening and an inner portion with a curved section that securely supports a latchbolt lock mechanism when an identical return spring assembly is installed on an opposite side of the door. A spring is driven by two spring drivers operating with a lost motion connection to the handle spindle to alternately compress the spring from opposite directions as the handle is rotated in opposite directions. The spring is positioned to not interfere with a linkage extending out from the latchbolt lock mechanism.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 2, 2006Publication date: August 2, 2007Inventor: Todd Zimmer

Publication number: 20050023846Abstract: A lever handle return spring assembly for a cylindrical lock mounted in a bored opening in a door includes support plates on opposite sides of the door. The support plates include cylindrically depressed inner regions that extend partially into the bored opening in the door to accommodate return springs and reduce the visual thickness of the return spring assembly. Spring housings containing compression springs turn within the support plate inner regions and are held in place by cover plates. The support plate, cover plate, spring housing and springs on each side of the door form complete assemblies that are attached to the door via through-bolts. At least one of the support plates preferably includes lock tabs that connect to the cylindrical lock to prevent rotation of the cylindrical lock relative to the door. The support plate and cover plate are designed for strength when stamped from a flat sheet.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2003Publication date: February 3, 2005Inventors: Darren Eller, Daniel Seymour, Todd Zimmer
