  • Patent number: 5584709
Abstract: An electrical connector includes an elongated dielectric housing adapted for mounting to a surface of a printed circuit board. The housing has terminal-receiving passages extending generally parallel to the circuit board between a front mating face of the housing and a rear terminating face thereof. The passages are arranged in pairs of upper and lower passages, with the passages in each pair being in a plane generally perpendicular to the circuit board. A plurality of terminals are mounted in pairs on the housing with mating portions in the passages and terminating portions projecting from the rear face of the housing for termination to circuit traces on the printed circuit board. The terminals are blanked from sheet metal material with the terminals in each pair being coplanar.

  • Patent number: 5334049
Abstract: An electrical connector is adapted for mounting on a surface of a printed circuit board. The connector includes a dielectric housing mounting electrical terminals, with the housing being adapted for mounting on the surface of the board and the terminals establishing electrical connection to appropriate circuit means on the board. A hold-down clip is mounted on the housing and includes a leg portion projecting through a hole in the board with a hooked latch for engaging an opposite side of the board to secure the connector to the board. The hold-down clip is configured such that the leg portion is spring loaded to bias the hooked latch against the opposite side of the board and thereby accommodate printed circuit boards of varying thicknesses. A method of using such hold-down clip is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5281169
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly is provided for mounting on a surface of a printed circuit board. The assembly includes a generally rectangular dielectric housing. A front of the housing defines a mating end for receiving a projecting portion of a mating connector. A generally rectangular conductive shield is disposed about portions of the housing and combines therewith to define a peripheral envelope of the connector assembly. The shield includes outside walls for covering at least some of the outside surfaces of the housing. At least one surface mounting foot is integral with at least one of the outside walls of the shield for securing the connector assembly to the surface of the printed circuit board. The surface mounting foot is located within the peripheral envelope of the connector assembly. The foot is formed at an opening in the shield which provides access through which visual observation can be made of the integrity of the surface mounting interface between the foot and the printed circuit board.
