  • Patent number: 6986158
Abstract: A system and method to adaptively control a process of distributing video information over a network. Each client data terminal subscribing to video services has a performance level reporting unit which sends a performance level message Da indicating what resources and computing power the terminal has. Each terminal also has an error status monitor which sends an error status message De. A video coder produces coded data Dc by coding source video signals, based on the received performance level messages Da and error status messages De. The traffic of this coded data Dc is dynamically varied by a dynamic traffic controller, and a distribution unit transmits the resultant video stream Di over the network, using IP multicasting techniques. A video decoder in each client terminal adaptively decodes the received video stream Di.

  • Publication number: 20010012141
Abstract: A WDM communications line is used as a trunk to which an IP network or a SONET/SDH network is connected as a tributary. Additionally, an ID for identifying each wavelength or path, which is accommodated by a WDM communications line, is assigned to a frame of each wavelength. The ID for identifying a wavelength or a path, and the number held by a transmission device that configures the path are managed. When a fault occurs, the wavelength or the path on which the fault occurs is identified, and the identified wavelength or path is displayed on the screen of a supervisory control device that monitors the entire network. An administrator can recognize at first sight the path influenced by the fault other than the point at which the fault occurs, thereby efficiently maintaining and managing the network.

  • Patent number: 5737010
Abstract: A system for connection and disconnection in a multipoint conference system of a cascade configuration, wherein when a list of line numbers of the MCUs and terminals engaging in the conference is input from an input unit of an MCU, a call origination/disconnection table is prepared comprised of the line numbers. When the table is prepared, a call origination/disconnection administrative unit identifies the terminals under the MCU and the other adjoining MCUs, calls and establishes a connection through lines, and, when the connections are completed, circulates a call origination/disconnection table to the other connected MCUs. These MCUs in turn then calls their terminals and their adjoining MCUs and so on until the end MCUs. Further, use is made of a connection list in which connection flags and the order of connection are successively written and use is made of a conference configuration list indicating the actual connections of the MCUs.
