Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a reading unit, a color value calculation unit, a reading period measurement unit, a color value storage unit, a color value creation unit and a color value output unit. The reading unit reads a color of each of plural objects. The color value calculation unit calculates a color value of the color of each read object. The reading period measurement unit measures a time period during which the reading unit reads each object. The color value storage unit stores the color value calculated and time period information indicating the time period measured, for each object. The color value creation unit creates a new color value based on the color values of the plurality of objects and the time period information stored in the color value storage unit. The color value output unit outputs the new color value created.

Abstract: The multimedia content browsing system for small mobile devices smoothly blends three key tasks: querying the multimedia contents by keywords, exploring the search results by viewing keyframes of the multimedia contents, and playing a stream of the multimedia contents, e.g., videos or video segments. Videos can be stored in a segment-based multimedia content database, which is designed to support the browsing, retrieval, and reuse of videos. A layered imaging model is introduced where each layer may have its own transparent value set individually, continuously, and interactively, and the layers can overlap on top of each other when rendered on the screen. Since a small mobile device alone may not have enough resources to handle the entire task of multimedia content browsing, a scalable architecture can be adopted to break up the task among the small mobile device, a Hard Disk Drive (HDD), and a resource-rich computing device.

Abstract: Presentations, tutorials and screencasts are difficult to watch on a small device such as a cell phone because the screen is too small to properly render content that typically contains text, like a presentation slide or a screenshot. The described system facilitates generating a user-controllable video movie from an existing media stream that 1) automatically identifies regions of interest from the original stream using visual, auditory and meta streams, 2) synchronizes these regions of interest with the original media stream, and 3) uses panning and scanning to zoom in and out or move the focus. The generated time-based media stream can be seamlessly interrupted by users, letting them temporarily focus on specific regions of interest. Meanwhile, the original media stream can continue playing or instead jump around the timeline as users jump between regions of interest.
