  • Patent number: 6663960
Abstract: Fluorescent particles strongly fluorescing upon irradiation with ultraviolet rays, as well as a process for producing the same, are provided. A water-insoluble fluorescent dyestuff and/or pigment fluorescing upon irradiation with ultraviolet rays and a powdery material including starch, cellulose, other polysaccharides and sugars are mixed and granulated. The surface of granules of the powdery material may be coated with the fluorescent dyestuff and/or pigment. In granulation or coating, a resin having reactive groups reacting with the hydroxyl groups of the powdery material is used in combination, whereby particles excellent in water resistance can be obtained. Further, the interaction between an anionic binder contained in the granules and a cationic material contained in the coating layer or between a cationic binder contained in the granules and an anionic material contained in the coating layer can be utilized to confer water resistance on the particles.

  • Patent number: 5058978
Abstract: A main optical waveguide portion and/or branching optical waveguide portions of the optical waveguide is tapered in such a way so as to expand towards the output side for reducing a coupling loss due to mismatching of numerical apertures N.A. between optical fibers and the optical waveguide, wherein the light entering the optical waveguide at an angle determined by the numerical aperture N.A. of the optical fiber gradually reduces its angle of incidence to an interface of the core and cladding as it passes by a portion where the taper is provided and when the light reaches the output side of the optical fiber, the numerical aperture N.A. thereof is effectively reduced to a value which is lower than the numerical aperture N.A. determined by a difference of refractive-indices in the optical waveguide. By making the numerical aperture N.A.

  • Patent number: 4831446
Abstract: A video signal output circuit which permits switching an output video signal from one input video signal source to another without loss of synchronization of the video monitor. A first pulse signal is produced synchronized with the vertical synchronizing signal of the first video signal. A first detector circuit detects the phase difference between the first pulse signal and a second pulse signal synchronized with the vertical synchronizing signal of the second video signal, and the period of generation of the first pulse signal is controlled in response to the phase detected phase difference. A second phase detector detects when the phase difference between the first pulse signal and the second pulse signal is within a predetermined range easily tolerated by the monitor. Switching from the first to the second video source is permitted when this phase difference is within the predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 4564867
Abstract: A video disc and reproducing device therefor in which a recognition signal for identifying the content of an audio program, specifically whether two recorded audio signals are in the stereophonic mode or in a split mode, is recorded along with the audio signal and a video signal. The recognition signal may be multiplexed in either a frequency division multiplex system or in a time division multiplex system. The reproducing device includes a selection switch provided for selecting whether a pair of sum and difference signals, in the stereophonic mode, or whether the first and second audio signals directly, in the case of the multiplex mode, are coupled to inputs of a modulator which outputs an RF signal adapted to be inputted to a television tuner. A pilot signal is included with the output of the modulator. The pilot signal is amplitude modulated with one of two different frequency sinewaves.

  • Patent number: 4359308
Abstract: A counterbalance device for operation with the manipulator of a laser knife in which the moment of the knife is maintained in a balanced state over the entire range of movement of the knife so that the movement of the knife is smooth over its entire range and its operability highly increased. A counterbalance device of the invention is coupled to the manipulator at a fulcrum point. The centers of gravity of the manipulator and counterbalance device are in the same vertical plane. The center of gravity of the counterbalance device is moved in parallel with the movement of the center of gravity of the manipulator. In preferred embodiments, the counterbalance device includes arm sections which are geometrically similar to the arm structure of the manipulator device. A rotatable arm of the counterbalance device is coupled through rotatable links to the corresponding rotatable arm of the manipulator so as to maintain dynamical balance.
