  • Patent number: 5341509
Abstract: Disclosed is a parallel processing system comprising, in combination, a stack assembly of bus-printed disks and a plurality of processing unit boards standing upright around and electrically connected to the stack assembly of bus-printed disks. Each bus-printed disk has an IC crossbar switch at its center and printed signal conductors radiating from the IC crossbar switch, and terminated with impedance matching elements. A selected processing unit board has an IC crossbar switch controller to allow the switch elements of each crossbar switch to open and close in a predetermined sequence. With this arrangement communication lines of equal, shortest possible length are provided to make a required electrical connection between selected processing units. Thus, reliable, noise-free, high-speed transportation of data is permitted.

  • Patent number: 5319526
Abstract: Disclosed is a means for connecting CPU boards to a radial-and-parallel system bus structure which is consisted of a stack of bus-printed disks whose centers are arranged on a common center axis. Each bus-printed disk comprises a disk of dielectric material bearing a printed radial pattern including a plurality of printed signal conductors radially extending from the center of the disk, and means to connect the end of each radial signal conductor to a selected lead in a selected one of said CPU boards standing upright around said stack of bus-printed disks. A connecting means according to the present invention comprises a plurality of receptacles fixed to the circumference of each disk. Each receptacle is connected at its rear end to the end of each radial signal conductor, and is adapted to detachably accept at its front a selected lead pin of each of said CPU boards. This arrangement facilitates the assembling and disassembling of a stack of disks.

  • Patent number: 5301089
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved parallel processing system using a radial bus assembly comprising a stack of disks each having an integrated circuit crossbar switch fixed at its center, a plurality of communication lines of equal length radially extending from the communication terminals of the crossbar switch and terminating on the circumference of the disk, a plurality of control lines each being arranged between adjacent communication lines, and radially extending from the control terminals of the crossbar switch and terminating short of the circumference of the disk, and male-and-female joints to electrically connect the terminations of the control lines of all disks in terms of same angular positions longitudinally in common.

  • Patent number: 5210682
Abstract: An improvement in a radial-and-parallel bus structure which includes a stack assembly of bus-printed disks whose centers are arranged on common center axis. Each bus-printed disk consists of a disk of dielectric material bearing on each of its opposite major surfaces, a printed radial pattern including a plurality of printed signal conductors of equal length radially extending from the center of the disk. Each signal conductor on one of the opposite major surfaces of the disk is coupled to a corresponding signal conductor on the other major surface to make up a signal conductor pair, and every signal conductor pair is terminated with an impedance matching element which is adapted to be connected to a selected lead in a selected one of CPU boards standing upright around the stack assembly of bus-printed disks. The impedance matching element prevents signal reflections of data being transmitted between selected CPU boards.

  • Patent number: 5091822
Abstract: A radial type of parallel system bus structure used bus wire-printed disks each having printed signal conductors of equal length extending radially from a common contact center. Each printed signal conductor comprises two twisted conductor lines, and each conductor line consists of many segments disposed alternately on opposite surfaces of the disk, the successive segments of each line being connected by plating in through-holes in the disk. The radial arrangement of signal conductors permits connection of selected CPU boards via equal length of signal path. Also, the use of twisted conductor lines improves the signal transmission characteristics of the bus in high-frequency ranges.

  • Patent number: 5060111
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved parallel system bus structure comprising a plurality of bus wire-printed disks each having a plurality of signal conductors of equal length extending radially from a common central contact. These bus disks are spaced vertically at regular intervals, and a plurality of connectors are fixed to the circumferences of the bus disks to permit connection between the signal conductors of the bus disks and the terminals of the CPU board. The radial arrangement of signal conductors permits connection of selected CPU boards via equal length of signal path, no matter how many CPU boards may be used. Therefore, no timed control is required in transmission of signals between selected CPU boards via the bus, and accordingly communication speed will be increased to meet highly functional computer's requirements.
