  • Patent number: 8050540
Abstract: A reproduction route composed of a still image section and a motion image section is recorded on a recordable DVD. A drive device (93) reads picture data from the DVD-RAM. An MPEG decoder (95) decodes and displays the read picture data. By referring to cell information, the judgment is performed as to whether the read picture data belongs to the still image section or the motion image data. If the read picture data belongs to the still image section, the next picture data is read out after a predetermined wait time.

  • Publication number: 20110026386
Abstract: An optical disc recording apparatus for recording a video object onto an optical disc. A recording area of the optical disc is divided into a plurality of zones which each include a plurality of adjacent tracks. The optical disc recording apparatus includes: a reading unit for reading from the optical disc the sector information showing data assignment for sectors on the optical disc; a recording unit for recording the video object onto the optical disc; and a control unit for controlling the reading unit and the recording unit. The control unit detects at least one series of consecutive unassigned sectors on the optical disc by referring to the read sector information. Each series has a total size greater than a minimum size and is located within a single zone. The minimum size corresponds to a data amount that ensures uninterrupted reproduction of the video object. The control unit also controls the recording unit to record the video object into the detected series.

  • Patent number: 7298966
Abstract: In a recording device, a playback buffer is provided between a TS decoder and an AV decoder and an internal memory is provided within the AV decoder. This being so, a video frame which is being played precedes a video frame which is being received, by about six frames. This time interval between reception and playback poses a problem when manual recording is performed. To solve the problem, the same video frames which are to be played by the AV decoder are stored in a record buffer. In this way, even if the time interval exists between reception and playback, the currently played video frame and subsequent video frames can be read from the record buffer and written onto an HDD.

  • Patent number: 7197236
Abstract: A recording/playback apparatus for a DVD on which a VOB and a management file of the VOB are recorded. When detecting a failure in the management file, the recording/playback apparatus changes the state of the DVD to: (a) a first state in which reading/writing of the DVD is available; (b) a second state in which reading/writing of the DVD is available but the VOB cannot be played back; or (c) a read only state, in accordance with the detected failure. When the state of the DVD changes to the second state, the recording/playback apparatus writes a new VOB onto the DVD. When the state of the DVD changes to the read only state, the recording/playback apparatus plays back the VOB recorded on the DVD.

  • Publication number: 20060251391
Abstract: An optical disc including: a data area storing one or more video objects; and a time map area storing time map information. Each video object includes a plurality of video object units. The time map information includes a first time table and a second time table for each video object. Each first time table includes: addresses of video object units in a corresponding video object; and indicators. The addresses are arranged in order and indicate storage positions of the video object units that correspond to reproduction points that differ by a predetermined time unit. The predetermined time unit is longer than a maximum reproduction period of a video object unit. The indicators specify the video object units which respectively correspond to the addresses. Each second time table includes an entry for each video object unit in the corresponding video object. The entries are arranged in order. Each second time table includes a reproduction period and a data size of each video object unit.
