  • Publication number: 20080298614
Abstract: The present invention relates to optimizing sound for a person based on his or her location and hearing profile. More particularly, the present invention relates to personalizing the sound of an event or performance by examining the technical specifications of an individual's hearing aid (which is provided by a third party) and the acoustics of an establishment. Using this information, a place of business alters the settings of each hearing aid device to optimize the sound for each individual.

  • Publication number: 20080041656
Abstract: A low-cost, programmable, time-limited hearing aid (104) and a means (102) to program the hearing aid with user-specific hearing-loss data (101) for the purpose of emulating the performance of a more permanent, but more costly, hearing aid device. The hearing aid is operational for only a limited time, and is intended for temporary, evaluative purposes. By providing the user with a low-cost, but temporary, means to evaluate the benefits of assisted hearing, he or she becomes more comfortable with its use, and therefore is more amenable to the more involved process and greater expense of being fitted for a more permanent hearing health solution. A method of use of the hearing health aid and the associated programming system that allows a hearing-loss candidate to evaluate the effectiveness of the hearing aid device is also presented.

  • Publication number: 20080040116
Abstract: The present invention is a TV hearing system that generally includes an analog or digital TV broadcast signal feeding a hearing health interface that subsequently drives the input of a standard television. The hearing health interface further includes a receiver, a digital signal processor (DSP) logic block, a driver, an input/output (I/O) device, and optionally a direct audio driver and/or a radio frequency (RF) transmitter. Pre-established data representing a personal hearing profile of a hearing impaired user that includes correction factors for compensating for the hearing problem is supplied to the DSP logic block. The DSP logic block then selectively modifies the audio relating to the TV broadcast and presents the enhanced audio to the user. Additionally, the present invention includes a business method of establishing a hearing health network to which users may subscribe.

  • Patent number: 6112276
Abstract: A modular disk memory apparatus provides a modularly expandable, multi-gigabyte auxiliary memory for a computer or other host electronic device, and includes multiple, parallel serial data channels to maximize bidirectional data transfer rates between the apparatus and the host device. Maximization of READ/WRITE data transfer rates within the apparatus is achieved by utilizing a large number of small hard disk drives, typically eight 2.5-inch drives on each of a plurality of Disk Storage Modules, each including a plug-in printed circuit board capable of holding two 5-1/4 inch drives, thereby increasing the maximum data transfer rate per unit volume of the modules by a factor of two.
