Patent number: 7195803Abstract: The disclosure relates to a packaging laminate for a retortable packaging container comprising a core layer (11), outer, liquid-tight coatings (12 and 13) and a gas barrier (14) disposed between the one coating (12) and the core layer (11). Between the gas barrier (14) and the core layer (11), there is a layer (16) of a lamination or sealing agent of such a nature that the lamination or sealing agent has a melting point which is higher than the maximum temperature to which the retortable packaging container is to be subjected during a normal heat treatment in a retort. The lamination or sealing agent in the layer (16) may, for example, be a polypropylene with a melting point of above 130° C.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2001Date of Patent: March 27, 2007Assignee: Tetra Laval Holdings & Finance S.A.Inventors: Thorbjörn Andersson, Tom Kjelgaard, Ib Leth

Patent number: 5228616Abstract: A package container fabricated from plastic-coated packaging material includes an upper end wall and a sealing fin that extends across the upper end wall of the container. The sealing fin includes mutually facing material layers between which is located an opening strip. The opening strip includes an inner layer positioned between outer layers that are sealed to plastic coatings of the packaging material, and an intermediate layer positioned between the inner layer and each of the outer layers. The intermediate layer is fabricated from a material whose properties are such that the adhesive bonding strength between all material layers of the opening strip and between the outer layers of the opening strip and the plastic coating of the packaging material is greater than the internally cohesive bonding strength of the intermediate layer.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1991Date of Patent: July 20, 1993Assignee: Tetra Alfa Holdings S.A.Inventor: Tom Kjelgaard

Patent number: 5113479Abstract: A method of heating a portion of a continuous material strip includes heating the web through use of one or more IR lamps provided with radiation-concentrating reflectors. The IR lamps are directed towards a restricted area on the web to thereby heat the thermoplastic surface in the restricted area to a temperature that corresponds to the melting temperature of the thermoplastic. The web can be provided with a color strip in the restricted area, whereby the color strip absorbs the heat from the IR lamps.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1991Date of Patent: May 12, 1992Assignee: Tetra Pak Holdings SAInventors: Anders Anderson, Tom Kjelgaard

Patent number: 4884695Abstract: Packing containers manufactured from plastic-coated paper and having a sealing fin wherein the packing material is joined inside-to-inside in a sealed union, the material layers so joined together accommodating between them, at least along a part of the sealing fin, a tearing strip inserted in the sealing fin which is sealed to the inner plastic coating of the packing material. To facilitate the pulling off of the tearing strip on opening of the container, the packing material is provided at least within the region of the part of the sealing fin accommodating the strip with a material layer adapted to weaken adherence which is applied between the fibrous layer and the inner plastic coating of the packing material and preferably consists of water glass.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1988Date of Patent: December 5, 1989Assignee: Roby Teknik AktiebolagInventor: Tom Kjelgaard

Patent number: 4495016Abstract: The invention relates to a packing laminate web with a protective layer which is applied during the manufacture of the laminate web to one, sterile side of the web. When the laminate web is to be converted to aseptic packing containers the protective layer is detached and is transferred to the opposite side of the laminate web where it serves as an external plastic layer. The invention also comprises a method for the manufacture and conversion of the packing laminate web.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1982Date of Patent: January 22, 1985Assignee: Tetra Pak International ABInventors: Rolf Viberg, Goran Harrysson, Tom Kjelgaard

Patent number: 4433784Abstract: The invention relates to an opening arrangement on parallelepipedic packing containers of the type which include a sealing fin extending over the top end wall of the packing container and a longitudinal overlap joint which crosses the sealing fin. In the region of the sealing fin arranged between a crossing point and a tip of a triangular lug, which is connected with the top end wall of the packing container, a strip is provided which includes a central portion of a non-extensible or only slightly extensible, material and outer coverings of thermoplastic. These outer coverings, upon sealing of the fin, will fuse together with an inner plastic covering of the packing material in the fin. The packing container is adapted to be opened by upwardly pulling a part of the strip projecting at the crossing point, so that the central layer of the strip is detached from the outer coverings to form an emptying channel.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1982Date of Patent: February 28, 1984Assignee: Tetra Pak International ABInventor: Tom Kjelgaard
