Patent number: 7748652Abstract: A material spreading drive system for a hopper spreader having a conveyor and a spreader separately driven by two electric motors that are powered directly from the electrical system of the vehicle. The conveyor drive system includes a speed reducing gearbox that can very efficiently transmit power received from the conveyor motor to the conveyor, thus reducing the demand on the electrical system. As a result, the electrical system is capable of also powering a second electric motor that drives the spreader. Due to the improved efficiency of the conveyor belt system, increased conveying and spreading speed are possible as well as independent control over the operating speeds of the conveyor and spreader.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2007Date of Patent: July 6, 2010Assignee: Air-Flo Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Charles S. Musso, Tom Musso

Publication number: 20060278740Abstract: A material spreading drive system for a hopper spreader having a conveyor and a spreader separately driven by two electric motors that are powered directly from the electrical system of the vehicle. The conveyor drive system includes a gearbox that transmits 90 to 95 percent of power received from the conveyor motor to the conveyor, thus reducing the demand on the electrical system. As a result, the electrical system is capable of also powering a second electric motor that drives the spreader. Due to the improved efficiency of the conveyor belt system, increased conveying and spreading speed are possible as well as independent control over the operating speeds of the conveyor and spreader.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 20, 2006Publication date: December 14, 2006Inventors: Charles Musso, Tom Musso

Patent number: 6960055Abstract: A dump truck body including a receptacle defined by a floor and, extending from the floor, first and second side walls on opposite sides of the floor, and a front wall and a tailgate, located on opposite sides of the floor and extending between the side walls. The floor of the dump truck body includes at least one longitudinal support structure which substantially extends from the front wall to the tailgate, a substantially planar support plate attached to the at least one longitudinal support structure, and at least one floor section attached to the at least one longitudinal support structure, without a plurality of longitudinally spaced, transverse supports attached to the at least one floor section, the at least one longitudinal support structure, and the substantially planar support plate. In addition, a conveyor system is attached to the at least one longitudinal support structure, the floor having at least one opening in alignment with the conveyor system.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2002Date of Patent: November 1, 2005Assignee: Air-Flo Manufacturing Company, Inc.Inventors: Charles S. Publication number: 20030161709Abstract: A dump truck body including a receptacle defined by a floor and, extending from the floor, first and second side walls on opposite sides of the floor, and a front wall extending between the side walls, wherein the first and second side walls have a first longitudinal edge distal from the floor and a second longitudinal edge proximal to the floor. The dump truck body further includes at least one first sloped panel having a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge, wherein the first longitudinal edge of the at least one first sloped panel is pivotally connected at or adjacent the first longitudinal edge of the first side wall for pivotal movement between a raised position adjacent the first side wall and a lowered position extending angularly between the first side wall and the floor.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 22, 2002Publication date: August 28, 2003Inventors: Charles S. Publication number: 20020000736Abstract: A latchable hinge for securing a tailgate to a truck body. The latchable hinge comprises a strike and a plunger assembly. The strike is mounted to one of the tailgate or the body and the plunger assembly is mounted to the other. The strike defines an aperture. The plunger assembly comprises a spaced set of tabs each defining an aperture. A bolt is slidable within the tab apertures, and is biased into an extended position, but may be moved to a retracted position. In the extended position the bolt can be captured by the strike aperture, and acts as a pivot around which the strike end thereby, the tailgate can rotate. In the retracted position, the strike is free of the bolt, and the tailgate is not secured to the dump body.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 1999Publication date: January 3, 2002Inventor: TOM MUSSO

Patent number: 5927617Abstract: A truck in accordance with the present invention includes a dump body, a truck frame with a rear axle, a lift system, and a conveying system. The dump body is defined by a unitary floor, a pair of sidewalls which extend tip from opposite sides of the floor, and a front wall and a back wall located on opposite sides of the floor and extending between the sidewalls. The dump body is pivotally connected to the truck frame adjacent to the back wall. The lift system is mounted to the truck frame and the dump body for lifting an end of the dump body proximate the front wall between a lowered resting position on the truck frame and an upper raised position. The conveying system is positioned on the floor behind the rear axle and extends between the pair of sidewalls. The dump body has at least one opening in alignment with the conveying system.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1996Date of Patent: July 27, 1999Inventors: Charles S. Musso, Jr., Tom Musso
