Abstract: In a machine having facsimile capabilities, a method for programming soft speed buttons which includes determining whether a number is associated with a given speed button; and if a number is associated with that speed button, providing for a facsimile message to be transmitted to the associated phone number. However, if no number is associated with the given speed button, then allowing a user to create a label for that speed button, and also to associate a number with that speed button.

Abstract: A networked system having a plurality of workstations and a peripheral device, the peripheral device having a printing function, memory for storing a plurality of private print-ready jobs and input means for manually inputting information into the peripheral device. The peripheral device is also capable of accepting a private print job together with a PIN from a given workstation, placing the private print job into a queue of print jobs, converting the private print job into a private print-ready job, storing the private print-ready job in memory, and notifying the given workstation when the private job is print-ready.

Abstract: A multifunction peripheral which can perform copying, printing, faxing and scanning. The MFP is made up of a hard output unit, essentially a copier, and a control unit, essentially a print server. User interface definitions for copying are embedded in the hard output unit. User interface definitions for printing, faxing and scanning are stored in the control unit. When the hard output unit resets, it loads the UI definitions from the control unit. The UI definitions in the control unit are stored as a file and are easily updated from a LAN.
