Publication number: 20240127071Abstract: There is provided a computer-implemented method for updating a search distribution of an evolutionary strategies optimizer using an optimizer neural network comprising one or more attention blocks. The method comprises receiving a plurality of candidate solutions, one or more parameters defining the search distribution that the plurality of candidate solutions are sampled from, and fitness score data indicating a fitness of each respective candidate solution of the plurality of candidate solutions. The method further comprises processing, by the one or more attention neural network blocks, the fitness score data using an attention mechanism to generate respective recombination weights corresponding to each respective candidate solution. The method further comprises updating the one or more parameters defining the search distribution based upon the recombination weights applied to the plurality of candidate solutions.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2023Publication date: April 18, 2024Inventors: Robert Tjarko Lange, Tom Schaul, Yutian Chen, Tom Ben Zion Zahavy, Valentin Clement Dalibard, Christopher Yenchuan Lu, Satinder Singh Baveja, Johan Sebastian Flennerhag

Publication number: 20240104389Abstract: In one aspect there is provided a method for training a neural network system by reinforcement learning. The neural network system may be configured to receive an input observation characterizing a state of an environment interacted with by an agent and to select and output an action in accordance with a policy aiming to satisfy an objective. The method may comprise obtaining a policy set comprising one or more policies for satisfying the objective and determining a new policy based on the one or more policies. The determining may include one or more optimization steps that aim to maximize a diversity of the new policy relative to the policy set under the condition that the new policy satisfies a minimum performance criterion based on an expected return that would be obtained by following the new policy.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 4, 2022Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventors: Tom Ben Zion Zahavy, Brendan Timothy O'Donoghue, Andre da Motta Salles Barreto, Johan Sebastian Flennerhag, Volodymyr Mnih, Satinder Singh Baveja

Patent number: 10020581Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for enhancing the performance of permeable antennas. Further, the parallel solenoid feed system disclosed herein may be used to reduce or eliminate significant phase delays in antennas, which may lead to destructive interference. Moreover, use of the parallel solenoid feed in an antenna eliminates the need for multiple feeds, complicated feed networks, and elaborate matching circuits. Using the parallel solenoid feed in circular magnetic antennas may enhance the performance of the antenna through maintaining the flux. Finally, many adjustable parameters for further tuning and/or optimizing the performance of particular antenna design have been identified herein, which may allow those skilled in the art to utilize known systems, such as full wave simulation software, to determine the desired final design for an antenna utilizing a parallel solenoid feed.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2016Date of Patent: July 10, 2018Assignee: Arizona Board of Regents on behalf of Arizona State UniversityInventors: Rodolfo Diaz, Tara Yousefi, Tom Sebastian, Sergio Clavijo

Publication number: 20160223472Abstract: Disclosed is an improved method and apparatus to calibrate a material characterization system. The method and apparatus are operative to set up multiple configurations for measuring and recording a specific characteristic response of the system for each configuration, using electromagnetic waves. The apparatus is designed to enable the system to measure and record the position of a reference material and a set of calibration data for such reference material, while positioned at locations that correspond to a range of possible thicknesses or fluttering during measurements of a sample that the system is capable of characterizing. As a result, a sample under test having a specific thickness and measured at a particular position can be readily calibrated analytically or by using reference data previously recorded with the same set up.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 30, 2015Publication date: August 4, 2016Inventors: Yakup Bayram, Tom Sebastian, Joseph Molinaro

Publication number: 20160188092Abstract: Disclosed is a touchscreen antenna system and a method of designing a touchscreen antenna system. The system and method are operative to integrate an antenna with one or more touchscreen components to render a compact and effective system and to provide a more robust operation. The system is configured such that an antenna element, comprising a radiating component or an antenna feeding portion, is electromagnetically coupled to a touchscreen element, including a touch sensor, a touch sensor line, and other active or passive elements of a touchscreen module. Accordingly, the system is capable to mitigate adverse effects, when operating in an environment or under conditions that may affect other systems or be susceptible to being affected by other sources, by designing antenna and touchscreen elements as an integrated unit. Additionally, the system and method provide an enhanced antenna system performance by incorporating touchscreen elements as part of the antenna design.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2015Publication date: June 30, 2016Inventors: Tom Sebastian, Yakup Bayram
