  • Patent number: 8132218
Abstract: An access/edge network node (300) according to the invention includes a single proxy function (301) to terminate on the subscriber side a single requesting protocol for a plurality of streaming video services.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 23, 2006
Date of Patent: March 6, 2012

  • Publication number: 20110242966
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for delivering error-critical traffic through a packet-switched network, and comprising the steps of: identifying first data packets (S1) conveying a particular error-critical traffic payload (IPTV), second data packets (S2) conveying FEC information (FEC) for self-recovering the particular traffic payload, and third data packets (S3) conveying a retransmitted part (RET) of the particular traffic payload, assigning a first traffic priority level (P1) to the first data packets, a second traffic priority level (P2) to the second data packets, and a third traffic priority level (P3) to the third data packets, and delivering the first, second and third data packets through said packet-switched network according to their respective traffic priority level.
    Type: Application
    Filed: December 1, 2009
    Publication date: October 6, 2011
    Applicant: ALCATEL LUCENT
    Inventor: Tom Van Caenegem
  • Patent number: 7697547
Abstract: Data representing video content is distributed over a passive optical network (PON) on virtual channels that are assigned to television (TV) channels as subscribers request the TV channels and de-assigned from TV channels when subscribers are no longer viewing them. Associating and de-associating TV channels with virtual channels can be performed with very low latency by using a near-physical layer protocol, such as the Physical Layer Operation Administration and Maintenance (PLOAM) protocol.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 7, 2005
Date of Patent: April 13, 2010
    Assignee: Alcatel Lucent
Inventors: Leopold Diouf, Tom Van Caenegem
  • Publication number: 20090150950
Abstract: A channel has a plurality of subchannels, and is sent to a media terminal through a network. The channel is sent over a single multicast tree of the network, where the multicast tree includes nodes. The media terminal sends an update message to a node in order to indicate subchannels the media terminal wishes to receive. The node selects indicated subchannels and sends only those subchannels to the media terminal.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 25, 2008
    Publication date: June 11, 2009
Inventors: Steven Van Den Berghe, Tom Van Caenegem
  • Publication number: 20090052553
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device (101) for decoding a plurality of encoded media units in streamed media. The device (101) comprises decoder means (104) for decoding one or more of the encoded media units thereby generating one or more decoded media units and first concealment means (105) for concealing at least one error in a decoded media unit thereby generating a first concealed media unit. The device (101) further comprises second concealment means (106) for generating a second concealed media unit based on one or more first concealed media units and/or one or more previously generated second concealed media unit and means for selecting (110) the first concealed media unit or the second concealed media unit for presentation.
