Abstract: A child vehicle seat includes a seat portion and a headrest assembly. The headrest assembly defines at least one belt aperture. The headrest assembly is movable in relation to the seat portion between an upper position and a lower position. The child vehicle seat further includes a harness system including (i) at least one shoulder belt portion extending through the at least one belt aperture defined in the headrest assembly, and (ii) a crotch belt assembly that is movable in relation to the seat portion between an extended position and a retracted position. Movement of the headrest assembly in relation to the seat portion from the upper position to the lower position causes the crotch belt assembly to move from the extended position to the retracted position.

Abstract: A child vehicle seat includes a metallic frame assembly having a posterior side and an anterior side, the metallic frame assembly including (i) a left lateral frame member having a first horizontal component and a first upright component, (ii) a right lateral frame member having a second horizontal component and a second upright component, and (iii) a number of support members interconnecting the first horizontal component to the second horizontal component, and the first upright component to the second upright component. The child vehicle seat further includes a posterior shell portion (i) positioned on the posterior side of the metallic frame assembly, and (ii) secured to the metallic frame assembly so that the posterior shell portion contacts each of the first horizontal component, the second horizontal component, the first upright support member, and the second upright support member.

The child vehicle seat further includes a harness system including (i) a first shoulder belt portion extending through the first belt passage, and (ii) a second shoulder belt portion extending through the second belt passage. Also, the child vehicle seat includes a retractor assembly configured to receive belt portions of the harness system in a wound configuration, the retractor assembly including a spring which urges belt portions of the harness system into the retractor assembly. Moreover, the child vehicle seat includes an actuator positionable between (i) a first position in which the actuator prevents payout of belt portions from the retractor assembly, and (ii) a second position in which the actuator allows payout of belt portions from the retractor assembly.

In addition, the child seat includes a first retractor assembly positioned within the space and configured to receive portions of the first strap, the first retractor assembly being operable to bias the first strap toward the first retractor assembly, and a second retractor assembly positioned within the space and configured to receive portions of the second strap, the second retractor assembly being operable to bias the second strap toward the second retractor assembly.
