  • Patent number: 8107425
Abstract: The present invention provides a quality based resource management in a radio communications system. In this resource management, channel resources are dynamically allocated to a multiresource capable mobile unit based on a radio quality of a radio link between the mobile unit and an associated base station. Thus, the amount of these resources to be allocated to the mobile unit is determined based on this radio quality and can be dynamically updated based on new quality reports. A high experienced quality means that more resources are allocated. The quality based resource allocation can also be combined with a quality based transmission scheduling. In such a case, mobile units experiencing a high quality are allowed to transmit more often in a period of time than mobile units with low quality.

  • Patent number: 8081975
Abstract: The invention involves uplink access management for user terminals (210, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260, 270) present in a same first cell (15) of a communication system (1) and participating in a communication session involving communication of user data on a common downlink channel to the terminals (210, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260, 270). When the terminals (210, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260, 270) want to respond to the user data transmission, they first have to request uplink access. According to the invention, at least one of the terminals (220, 230, 240) requests this uplink access using a request channel associated with a second (25, 35, 45) cell different from the current first cell (15). This reduces the risk of collision of uplink access requests on the request channel by distributing the requests over several cells (15, 25, 35, 45) instead of a single cell (15).

  • Patent number: 7873378
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of reducing setup delay for an uplink message from a user terminal (UT) in a delay sensitive service in a radio telecommunications system, such as a push to talk service (PoC), by predicting that delay sensitive data is about to be transmitted, sending, as a response to the prediction, a connection setup signal from the terminal to a basestation subsystem (BSS) in order to set up an early uplink radio connection, and transmitting the delay sensitive data via the early uplink connection. There is also provided a user terminal (UT) and a radio telecommunications system.

  • Publication number: 20090154574
Abstract: In a method of link quality control for communication links between a plurality of mobile terminals and a node in a radio communication system, providing (S0) at least one data block for transmission between said node and at least one of said mobile terminals, providing (S1) at least two measurement reports comprising measurements of the quality for a plurality of potential burst constellations on which to transmit said at least one data block, jointly selecting (S2) a respective burst constellation for each said at least one data block based at least on said measurement reports, jointly selecting (S3) a respective modulation and coding scheme for each said data block based at least on said measurement reports. Subsequently, scheduling (S4) bursts for transmission on at least one available channel based at least on said jointly selected modulation and coding scheme and said jointly selected burst constellation.
