  • Patent number: 7090417
Abstract: Provision is made for identifying selected pages of a document to be automatically sent for printing to one of two or more printing devices. As an example, specific pages can be flagged for printing on a color device while remaining pages stay in default mode, which could be pre-selected as a particular black and white printing device. Upon submission of the job for printing, black images are automatically sent to the black and white device while color pages are sent to a specified color device. The original job remains intact and particular page level settings remain with the job for future use.

  • Patent number: 6995860
Abstract: A system and method for managing production printing workflow is disclosed. The system includes workflow management software which manages and facilitates the procedural stages of the workflow including job origination, job preparation, job submission and job fulfillment. The workflow management software provides an integrated object oriented interface which visually reflects and interacts with the workflow. The software further provides functionality for efficient page level modifications to documents at the job preparation stage. This functionality allows such modifications to be easily made to selected pages and visually verified by displaying visual representations of the modifications on visual representations of the pages. In particular, the insertion and attributes of ordered media, such as tab separator pages, is visually represented.

  • Publication number: 20040179231
Abstract: A method of automatically applying bleed tabs to a document to be printed is disclosed. Upon receipt of an electronic copy of the document to be printed, a graphical user interface (GUI) window (30) is provided on a job preparation workstation (116) or a storefront workstation (114). By way of this window (30), various fields (32, 34, 35, 36) are provided by way of which the user can define various attributes of the bleed tabs, including the tab text, page ranges, font and size, the number of tab cuts, and the like. The workstation receives these inputs, and applies the bleed tabs to a ready-for-printer format electronic copy of the document.

  • Publication number: 20010044868
Abstract: A graphic user interface for controlling a production printer is disclosed. The graphic user interface displays representations of the document to be produced by the production printer. Further, the interface provides visual indicators to indicate the presence of ordered media within the document as well as the attributes applied to the pages of the document corresponding to the ordered media. The graphic user interface allows the operator to view the applied page features for each page of ordered media in the document to verify they are correct prior to producing the document on the production printer. Further, the operator can modify incorrectly applied page features or add additional page features to correct errors.

  • Patent number: 5221200
Abstract: In a reproduction machine wherein thermoplastic marking particles are permanently fixed to a receiver member by application of heat in a fusing assembly as the receiver member is transported along a travel path, an improved device for cooling the receiver member. The improved cooling device comprises a thermally conductive guide plate located in juxtaposition with the receiver member travel path downstream, in the direction of receiver member travel, of the fusing assembly. A plurality of heat transfer fins extend from the guide plate on the opposite side thereof from the travel path. The heat transfer fins are oriented in a direction parallel to the direction of travel of a receiver member along the travel path. Cooling air is directed over the heat transfer fins to dissipate heat from a receiver member moving along the travel path.

  • Patent number: 4887128
Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for reproducing information on a document sheet so that copies are provided with such information, yet also include additional information that may vary from copy to copy. An electrophotographic reproduction apparatus is provided to optically reproduce the information on the document sheet. The document sheet is provided with a black patch (or placed in a transparent folder having such patch) that is located in the area corresponding to where the variable information is to be written. The document sheet is then placed on a digitizing tablet to provide signals indicative of the area of the black patch. The document sheet is then placed on the exposure platen and optically copied. In response to the signals an LED printhead writes the variable information on the same image frame used to optically copy the original to provide full machine speed copying. The document sheet with black patch may be produced by the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4740818
Abstract: An electrophotographic reproduction apparatus and method are provided for reproducing an original document sheet that includes a continuous tone pictorial information area and a line-type information area. Rather than reproducing the entire document sheet with screening of both types of information, means are provided for selectively screening only the pictorial information area on the reproduction. The means of one preferred embodiment comprises a programmable illumination source that is programmed through inputs by the operator using a digitizing tablet to selectively image portions of a screen onto a charged photoconductive web prior to development of the electrostatic image formed on the web so that only the area on the web receiving the pictorial image is exposed to the screen.
