  • Publication number: 20210205958
Abstract: A method of abrading the surface of a workpiece is disclosed. The method includes providing a workpiece, an abrading apparatus with a backing pad configured to receive an abrading plate, an abrading plate attachable to the backing pad and a slurry including abrasive grains; attaching the abrading plate to the backing pad; providing the slurry including abrasive grains between the abrading plate and the surface of the workpiece; and operating the abrading apparatus to abrade the surface of the workpiece. Therein, the abrading plate includes a workpiece-facing layer, which workpiece-facing layer faces the surface of the workpiece and includes a metal or a polymer, and the abrasive grains have a hardness on the Mohs scale of greater than 5.

  • Patent number: 7537419
Abstract: In a first aspect, the invention relates to a cutting tool that comprises a part (1) having an insert seat as well as a cutting insert (2) detachably connected in the same, which insert comprises a first serration connecting surface (3), which is formed of ridges spaced-apart by grooves, which ridges are arranged to engage grooves situated between ridges in a second serration connecting surface (4) serving as insert seat in said tool part (1). According to the invention, in one (3) of said serration connecting surfaces (3, 4), at least one enlarged ridge (18) is arranged between two spaced-apart fields (20a, 20b), which separately comprises a plurality of ordinary ridges of a certain size, which enlarged ridge is arranged to engage a correspondingly enlarged groove (19) in the second serration connecting surface (4). In additional aspects, the invention also relates to a cutting insert and a tool part as such.

  • Patent number: 7195427
Abstract: A cutting insert includes a body that forms top and bottom surfaces, and a center hole intersecting at least the top surface (e.g., a through-hole). A portion of the top surface which extends around the center hole includes an array of projections radiating laterally outwardly around the center hole. A distal end of each projection disposed farthest from the center hole defines a tip of the projection. The projections form at least six tips spaced circumferentially apart. Each tip has a planar top face. A clamp has flat contact surfaces which press downwardly against the planar top faces of respective projections simultaneously as the clamp pulls the insert against an upstanding support surface.
