  • Patent number: 8208483
Abstract: An Ethernet switch and method for handling received unicast packets having a destination address unknown to the switch. Each such unicast packet is queued in a flooding buffer in every interfacing output port of the switch. The packets in the flooding buffer are scheduled as lowest priority traffic.

  • Publication number: 20120075995
Abstract: End-to-end communication in a communications network is controlled by determining, based on monitoring of traffic in the communications network, the number of paths, or links, needed between the first and the at least second network element. If it is determined, based on the traffic load, that not all available paths are needed:—Selecting at least one path that should not be used to carry traffic,—Rerouting any traffic using the selected at least one path to at least one alternative path, and —Placing any network elements or links not carrying traffic after the rerouting in standby mode in which the power consumption of the elements is reduced, to reduce the power consumption in the network.

  • Patent number: 8111714
Abstract: A broadband access node and method for controlling access by end users to services over communication channels. A resource admission control mechanism includes a first memory for storing information about a currently available transmission capacity on an uplink channel, a second memory for storing information about a currently available transmission capacity on a downlink subscriber line; and a third memory for storing information about a currently available maximum performance of the access node. A fourth memory stores service-related information regarding the capacity and performance service requirements of respective services. A processor calculates whether the service requirements of a requested service fulfill given conditions in relation to currently available uplink/downlink capacity and currently available performance capability of the access node. Requests that fulfill the given conditions are granted while requests that do not fulfill the conditions are rejected.

  • Patent number: 7908386
Abstract: A method and system for enabling a mobile station (MS) to transfer from one Network Address Translation (NAT) domain to another NAT domain. Dynamic rules created in the first NAT domain are transferred to the second NAT domain via a first Media Policy Routing function. A tunnel is created between the second NAT domain and the first MPR for transferring a MS session. A new session from the MS is created outside the tunnel and once the MS session times out, the MS session, the states existing in the first MPR and the second NAT domain utilizing a new set of dynamic NAT rules created in the second NAT domain are all removed. The tunnel is then removed and communication via a second MPR and the second NAT domain is available.

  • Publication number: 20110026537
Abstract: Method and arrangement for communication of data packets between a first device (D1) in a first local network (A) and a second device (D2) in a second local network (B). where private IP addresses are used for devices present in the first and second local networks. A first gateway (100) of the first network updates (1:1) a local name server record (100a) with a domain name and an IP address of a second gateway (102) of the second network, each gateway having a local DNS function. When an outgoing DNS request is received (1:2) from the first device referring to a hostname of the second device, the IP address of the second gateway is determined (1:3) from the local name server record based on a domain name in the hostname. A DNS request is then sent (1:4) to the second gateway using the determined IP address, to obtain a current private IP address of the second device in a DNS response (1:5) from the second gateway.

  • Publication number: 20110013641
Abstract: Method and arrangement for obtaining unambiguous addressing for data packets communicated between devices (E1B, E3A) in two different local networks (A,B) using potentially overlapping private IP address spaces. A VPN tunnel is initially established between gateways (102,104) in the two local networks and an internal IP address space is defined in each network for devices in the opposite network, not overlapping with an internal IP address space used for its own devices. When the gateway (102) of one network receives a data packet from a device (E1B) in the opposite network, the packet's header is modified by changing the destination and source addresses, which belong to address spaces valid in the opposite network, into addresses belonging to address spaces valid in the present network.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a mail server for a network. The mail server has a sender part arranged to receive outgoing e-mails from users of the network and to send the received e-mails to their recipients. The sending part is arranged to copy at least some of the contents in the received e-mail to a storage. The sending part provides an amended e-mail based on the received e-mail, said amended e-mail comprising at least one pointer substituting the contents copied to the storage, said pointer pointing at said contents in said storage.

  • Patent number: 7761553
Abstract: An access node connected to end-users, routers, and a DHCP-server. The end-user defines desired services provided via the routers. A purpose is to automatically provide simultaneous access to services via two or more of the routers, although the end-user simultaneously handles only one router. The connections are secure. The end-user requests one of the services. The access node identifies the end-user and sends a corresponding request to the DHCP-server, which dynamically allocates addresses to the end-user and to all the routers for the desired services. The access node snoops the addresses in a DHCP option message from the DHCP-server, resolves the router addresses, stores IP router addresses and IP MAC addresses in a memory and sets MAC addresses in MAC filters. An option reply with one router is sent to the end-user, which after request for one service, reaches all the services stored in the memory.
