  • Publication number: 20180141170
Abstract: A method to restore a cast iron part is provided. The method includes providing the cast iron part with an impaired surface. The method further includes depositing a layer of repair material on the impaired surface of the cast iron part. The method further includes exposing the layer of repair material to heat to generate a cladding layer. The method further includes cooling the cladding layer.

  • Patent number: 9975208
Abstract: An alloy for cladding cast iron is disclosed. The alloy may include on a weight basis, about 6.2% to about 9.3% of chromium (Cr), about 3.0% to about 4.5% of iron (Fe), about 1.4% to about 2.15% of silicon (Si), about 0.5% to about 0.8% of boron (B), about 0.1% of carbon (C), and a balance of nickel (Ni) and incidental impurities.

  • Publication number: 20170130285
Abstract: A method of processing a metal component is provided. The method includes laser cladding at least one surface of a metal component to obtain a laser cladded metal component having a predefined hardness. The method further includes heat-treating the laser cladded metal component to reduce the predefined hardness of the laser cladded metal component for performing metal working operations thereon. The method also includes cryogenically hardening the laser cladded metal component after the heat-treatment thereof, to induce the predefined hardness to the laser cladded metal component.

  • Publication number: 20160175985
Abstract: A method for applying a cladding layer to a substrate is provided. The method includes applying a cladding layer from a start position using a laser operating in a continuous mode of operation. The method also includes completing the cladding layer at a stop position that is in close proximity to the start position. The area between the start position and the stop position defines a gap. The method further includes applying the laser directly to at least the gap while operating in a pulse mode of operation and filling the gap with an overlap cladding layer using the laser operating in the continuous mode of operation.
