In preferred embodiments, the adjustment of the penetration depth is provided by adjustment between a fixed part of the handpiece and an adjustable part of the handpiece. In even more preferred embodiments, adjustment of the penetration depth is provided through a plurality of interchangeable adjustable parts each configured to provide for a different penetration depth when coupled to the fixed part. Preferred embodiments further include an optical system that provides imaging of the treatment surface and is capable of adjusting to the change in penetration depth to continue to provide imaging of the treatment surface.
