  • Patent number: 7722223
Abstract: A structure of a line lighting device permits a rod-like light guide to be attached to a case without rubbing against the case. An end portion of the rod-like light guide provided with a pin is inserted into an opening in a case main body and pushed down, thus making the pin engage with a recess in the case main body. At this time, a distal end of the rod-like light guide is inserted, to some extent, into an opening in a light emitting unit fixing portion. Subsequently, the rod-like light guide is pushed down and pivoted around the pin so as to be completely contained within the case main body. In this state, the distal end of the rod-like light guide is fitted into the opening and the end face of the rod-like light guide is flush with the outer side face of the light emitting unit fixing portion.

  • Publication number: 20090168126
Abstract: There are provided a light emitting unit in which temperature increase due to heat generated in a light emitting element is suppressed to enhance light emission efficiency, a linear illumination device in which the light emitting unit is incorporated, and a contact-type image sensor and an image scanner in which the linear illumination device is incorporated. A lead frame 23 in the light emitting unit has an extension 29. The extension 29 is folded along a case 12, and a plate-shaped heat dissipater 30 is connected to the extension 29. The connection is carried out by forming holes 29a and 30a in the extension 29 and the heat dissipater 30, respectively, and engaging a protrusion 31 formed on the case 12 in the holes 29a and 30a. The extension 29 thus comes into tight contact with the heat dissipater 30 and is fixed thereto. The heat dissipater 30 is made of a good thermally conductive material, such as copper, and formed separately from the lead frame 23.

  • Publication number: 20090073715
Abstract: A light emitting unit comprises a light emitting element, a light emitting element substrate for mounting the light emitting element, and a light emitting element substrate frame member provided with a window for exposing the light emitting element, wherein the inside of the window is sealed with a first resin and a second resin, the ratio of the second resin relative to the first resin becomes smaller toward the outside of the window from the inside thereof. The first resin is a transparent resin, and the second resin is a colored resin with a high color value or a resin including a light reflective material and/or a light scattering material. Since a sectional border line between the first resin and the second resin is a curved line, the light reflected from the bottom section of the window among the light emitted from the light emitting element can also be efficiently emitted to the outside.

  • Publication number: 20090003016
Abstract: To provide a rod-like light guide and a line lighting device including the rod-like light guide, both of which are easy to include in an image reading device, a contact-type image sensor and an image reading device. For instance, a protruding portion having a flat or curved surface is formed by grinding an end face of a rod-like light guide in a longitudinal direction while leaving at least 80% of the surface area of the end face, and a reflective surface is formed by bonding a heat transfer film to the protruding portion. Thus, even if a portion of the protrusion portion melts when performing thermal processing on the heat transfer film, the portion will not jut out beyond a cross-sectional area of the rod-like light guide, and the rod-like light guide can be easily contained in a case.

  • Patent number: 7308187
Abstract: A bar-shaped light guide is provided to allow its emitting surface to be exposed from a white casing and is provided with a pattern for scattering and reflecting the light on a bottom surface opposite to the emitting surface. This pattern is formed by a white paint or minute irregularities. Further, an end face of the bar-shaped light guide opposite to the incident side is made cube-corner shaped. In other words, the end face is made chevroned by mirror-finished flat surfaces. These flat surfaces are tilted at such an angle that an incident angle ? of the rays of light traveling through the bar-shaped light guide parallel to the longitudinal direction of the bar-shaped light guide is smaller than a critical angle.

  • Patent number: 7284891
Abstract: A line-illuminating device which is resistant to shrinkage problems caused by repetition of heating and cooling includes a white casing made of polycarbonate or the like, a light guide made of an acrylic resin or the like and accommodated in the casing such that the light-emitting surface thereof is exposed, and light-emitting elements (for example, light-emitting diodes) as a light source provided on both ends of the casing so as to abut against the end surfaces of the light guide without a gap. The casing is divided into two portions in the longitudinal direction, and a gap is formed between the two divided portions. With this gap, even if the light guide shrinks due to repetition of heating and cooling, the divided portions can effectively shrink together with the light guide via the gap, and the abutting state between the end surface of the light guide and the light-emitting element can be maintained.

The light-emitting unit board 21 is also provided with an open window 21a for mounting a light-emitting device. The lead frame 22 comprises a lead terminal section 22a, an inner lead section 22c, and a light-emitting device mounting and connecting section 22b which is exposed within the open window 21a. The light-emitting devices 23a, 23b, and 23c are bonded with the light-emitting device mounting and connecting section 22b, and electrodes of the light-emitting devices and the lead frame are connected by a metal wire 24, wherein the open window 21a is sealed by transparent resin. The lead frame 22 is made of iron-containing copper to improve heat radiation performance of the light-emitting unit board. By increasing maximum current to be supplied to the light-emitting diodes, it is possible to increase illumination brightness and to attain speedup of image reading.

  • Patent number: 7125151
Abstract: A light guide 11 of a rectangular cross-section has side faces 11a, 11b including short sides in the longitudinal direction of which one side face 11a is provided with a light-scattering pattern 20, formed by screen-printing in white paint, for scattering the light incident to the light guide 11. The other side face 11b facing the side face 11a is exposed from a casing 12 to serve as a light-emitting surface. In the present embodiment, it is possible to secure a sufficient amount of light because the whole area of the side face is used as the light-emitting surface. The remaining side faces 11c, 11d of the light guide 11 are side faces including the long sides. Since the side faces 11c, 11d easily produce a surface sink during molding, neither the light-scattering pattern 20 nor the light-emitting surface is provided thereon.
