  • Patent number: 5225822
Abstract: A data processing device is provided with a liquid crystal display incorporating electroluminescent backlighting, in which the electroluminescent backlighting panel is provided with several degrees of luminosity. A selection circuit specifies the degree of luminosity to allow the electroluminescent backlighting panel to generate the selected luminosity level.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 21, 1992
Date of Patent: July 6, 1993
    Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki Kaisha
    Inventors: Tomikatsu Shiraishi, Isao Kawano

  • Patent number: 5065357
Abstract: A data processing machine which is provided with a liquid crystal display unit having an electroluminescent panel functioning as the backlighting source of the liquid crystal display unit, which includes a circuit for counting the period during which the electroluminescent panel is inoperative and a control circuit that extinguishes the illumination of the electroluminescent panel in response to a signal output from the time-counting circuit. Furthermore, a circuit indicating to the operator that the extinguished illumination of the electroluminescent panel is due to operation of the above controlled circuit can also be provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 9, 1990
Date of Patent: November 12, 1991
    Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki Kaisha
    Inventors: Tomikatsu Shiraishi, Isao Kawano
  • Patent number: 4981296
Abstract: A data processing machine is provided with a microprocessor that functions in response to signals output by a clock oscillator to selectively change the data-processing speed of the microprocessor. The data processing machine contains a circuit for generating interruption signals at specific intervals by dividing the signals output by the clock oscillator, a signal-input device for inputting command signals that cause the microprocessor to change the data-processing speed, and a controller which, in response to signals from the input device, executes a stand-by process each time a specific number of interruption signals generated by the interruption signal generating circuit is received.

  • Patent number: 4812837
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a video RAM for storing character and graphic data, a control circuit for selecting specific data from the RAM to be displayed on a liquid crystal display panel, and a positive/negative mode selector for selecting one of a positive display mode in which data is displayed as lighted elements against a dark background, and a negative display mode in which data is displayed as dark elements against a lighted background. The display device allows the use of software developed for CRT based data processors to be run in LCD mounted data processors in which the data formats would otherwise be reversed.
