  • Publication number: 20060049743
Abstract: A flat panel display having electron sources capable is of emitting electrons uniformly within the display surface. The flat panel display includes a rear panel formed by a rear substrate. Cathode electrodes are formed on the inner surface of the rear substrate. Layers forming the electron sources consist of carbon nanotubes and are formed on the cathode electrodes. The surfaces of layers of the electron sources are bristled with the carbon nanotubes. Multi-walled and single-walled carbon nanotubes are dispersed in the layers of the electron sources.

  • Publication number: 20060045959
Abstract: The present invention provides a method which can form a uniform amorphous film using an organic low molecular weight material which is refined by distillation or sublimation. The viscosity of ink is regulated by mixing two kinds of solvents so as to increase a surface tension of the ink and the solubility of the organic material in a drying step whereby an amorphous film made of an organic material is selectively formed in a recessed region defined by a partition wall layer using an ink jet method.

  • Patent number: 6936958
Abstract: A gap formed between cathode wires 2 (electron emitting sources 2a) and control electrodes 4 is made uniform and a gap formed between a rear panel 100 and a face panel 200 is held at a predetermined value with high accuracy. Plate-like members are used as the control electrodes 4. Holes 4a which allow electrons emitted from the electron emitting sources 2a provided to the cathode wires 2 to pass through the control electrodes 4 toward the face panel 200 side are formed in pixel regions which are defined by the cathode wires 2 and the control electrodes 4 crossing the cathode wires 2 both of which are formed on the rear panel 100. Contact portions 10 which are projected toward the rear panel 100 side and support the control electrodes 4 are provided between the neighboring cathode wires 2. Further, gap holding members 9 which hold the gap between the face panel 200 and the rear panel 100 at the predetermined value are provided right above the contact portions 10 and at the face panel 200 side.

  • Publication number: 20050057178
Abstract: Using a cathode material with which an electron emission having sufficient intensity is obtained with a low electric field, over a back substrate, cathodes and first control electrodes are formed on the same plane, which is parallel to the back substrate, thus forming electron beam sources, and second control electrodes, which focus electrons taken out from the electron beam sources, are formed, whereby it is possible to obtain an image display of high brightness.

  • Publication number: 20050052116
Abstract: To obtain an image display of high image quality with a high and contrast with the least blurring, an electron beam source panel includes cathodes which emit electron beams and control electrodes which control the strength of the electron beams, and a phosphor screen panel includes a light emitting surface having a phosphor capable of emitting light of the same color over the whole light emitting surface and anodes to which a potential is supplied necessary for the phosphor. The electron beam source panel and the phosphor screen panel are laminated to each other by way of spacers, the laminated structure is sealed by a frame glass and the inside of the sealed structure is evacuated to create a vacuum therein. The light emitting surface is divided in three or more regions, thus providing a flat panel backlight which selectively allows only some portions of the divided light emitting surface to emit light.

  • Publication number: 20050029924
Abstract: The present invention provides an emissive flat panel display device which is capable of performing a gate operation at a relatively low voltage of several V to several tens V using gate electrodes. In the emissive flat panel display device which includes a back panel which is constituted of a back substrate on which cathode electrodes having electron sources formed of carbon nanotubes and gate electrodes are formed, a face panel which forms phosphors and anode electrodes thereon, and a sealing frame which seals the back panel and the face panel, the difference between an electric field strength Emax for allowing the electron sources to obtain the required maximum emission current density and an electric field strength Emin which becomes the minimum emission current density is set to 1V/?m or less, and preferably 0.5V/?m or less.

  • Publication number: 20040251813
Abstract: An emissive flat panel display device has an electron emission and control structure which uses carbon nanotubes or the like as electron sources and is formed using a relatively inexpensive manufacturing technique. Cathode electrodes, an insulation layer and gate electrodes are formed on a back substrate by screen printing. Insulation-layer openings are formed in the insulation layer and control apertures are formed in the gate electrodes at the same positions as the insulation-layer apertures. Inner peripheries of the control apertures are retracted from inner peripheries of the insulation-layer apertures formed in the insulation layer, thus preventing sagging of a silver paste for gate electrodes into the insulation-layer apertures in a step for forming the gate electrodes. Ink containing carbon nanotubes is applied to the control apertures formed in the gate electrodes by an ink jet method or the like.

  • Patent number: 6717352
Abstract: A gap defined between cathode wires 2 having electron emitting sources 2a and control electrodes 4 is made uniform and a thickness of an insulation layer 3 interposed between both of them is made thin or the insulation layer 3 is eliminated whereby the electron emission characteristics and the high-frequency driving of high performance can be realized. The control electrodes 4 which have recessed portions 4c in plate-like members and have holes 4a for allowing electrons to pass therethrough in bottom portions thereof restrict the gap defined between the cathode wires 2 and the control electrodes 4 by adjusting a plate-thickness direction size of the holes 4a formed in the control electrodes 4.
