  • Publication number: 20040156450
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for correcting an IQ-imbalance (In-phase and Quadrature) of an IQ-based direct conversion receiver (200). In the method a group of radio frequency pilot signals are received in the direct conversion receiver (200). They are conveyed to an in-phase branch and a quadrature-phase branch of the receiver (200) and mixed, in the analogue domain, to form a baseband in-phase (I) and quadrature-phase (Q) signal components. The signal componets are conveyed to a digital demodulator (210) which detects the IQ-phase imbalance of the direct conversion receiver (200) by analysing at least one of the baseband in-phase (I) and the quadrature-phase (Q) signal components. In the method, the detected IQ-imbalance is corrected, in the analogue domain of the direct conversion receiver (200), to achieve a 90 degrees phase difference between a future baseband in-phase (I) signal component and a future baseband quadrature-phase (Q) signal component.

  • Patent number: 6628731
Abstract: The invention pertains to a method for controlling the signal level in a digital receiver, wherein the level of a received analog signal is controlled in an analog control circuit (35), whereafter the level of the analog signal coming from the analog control circuit (35) is controlled in a digital control circuit (34), the analog signal is converted into a digital signal in an A/D converter (13) and the amplification factor of the digital control circuit (34) is adjusted on the basis of the signal level of the digital signal coming from the A/D converter (13). The invention also pertains to an apparatus (30) for controlling signal levels in a digital receiver, said apparatus (30) comprising at least an analog control circuit (35) to control the level of an analog signal and a digital control circuit (34) to control the level of the analog signal produced by the analog control circuit (35).

  • Publication number: 20030162543
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for providing interrupt-free hand-over in a mobile terminal. First and second service signals broadcast by corresponding wireless transmitters are received and signal data is derived from the service signals. If the signal data from the first wireless transmitter meets a first predefined criterion and if the signal data from the second wireless transmitter meets a second predefined criterion, reception is switched from the first wireless transmitter to the second wireless transmitter after a predefined portion of the service signal has been received.

  • Publication number: 20030153369
Abstract: A system that allows mobile terminals to periodically remove power from at least some components is disclosed. The mobile terminal receives bursts of content. Some of the bursts of content include relative time information identifying the transmission time of a subsequent burst of content. The mobile terminal may remove power from a receiving module during times when the mobile terminal is not scheduled to receive content bursts.

  • Publication number: 20030012305
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for adjusting IQ-imbalance of a direct conversion receiver (200). In the method a radio frequency training signal is locally generating and conveyed to an in-phase branch and a quadrature-phase branch of the receiver (200). The method comprises mixing, in the analogue domain, the radio frequency training signal of the in-phase branch with a first mixing signal to form a baseband in-phase component (I) of the training signal and mixing, in the analogue domain, the radio frequency training signal of the quadrature-phase branch with a second mixing signal to form a phase shifted component (Q) of the training signal. The baseband in-phase component (I) and phase shifted component (Q) are analogue-to-digital converted to form a digital baseband in-phase component and a digital baseband phase shifted component of the training signal.
