  • Patent number: 7710873
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gateway between two networks of a communication system. A plurality of communication service classes is available for the communication between the networks. In the method a call is routed from a network to another network via the gateway. The type of the call is defined. A gateway controller also determines the communication service class that is to be used for the call. The gateway controller communicates information that associates with the determined service class to the gateway. The communication is based on a communication protocol message that has been adapted to transport the information between the gateway controller and the gateway. The call is then processed based on the information.

  • Patent number: 7636355
Abstract: An arrangement of a network element, which routes communication traffic among different types of communication networks, includes a central processing unit configured to perform routing operations on the basis of a communication protocol, which forms a stack. Also, the arrangement of the network element includes devices configured to handle signal processing related issues and communicating with the central processing unit. The communication protocol stack is divided into a first stack situated in the central processing unit, which performs the routing operations of protocols in the first stack, and into a second stack, each device that handles signal processing related issues performing the operations of protocols in the second stack.

  • Patent number: 7626976
Abstract: An access system, such as a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), includes a multiplexer for connecting subscriber devices, such as telephones and/or IP terminals, to a subscriber line; and an access multiplexer for connecting subscriber lines to a backbone network. The access system may also include a gateway for connecting the backbone network to a first system. When the access system receives a voice call to a second system via the telephone system and the first system employs a voice coding method, the access system is arranged to negotiate with the second system a type of voice codec to be used in both the first and second system. The access systems is configured to transmit an encoded voice signal from the subscriber device or the multiplexer to the first system and to transmit an encoded voice signal from the first system to the subscriber device or the multiplexer.

  • Patent number: 7539615
Abstract: The invention relates to a network element (1) and a method for enhancing the quality of digitised analogue signals transmitted in parameterised coded form via a digital network. In order to enable an enhancement of the quality of the digitised analogue signals on network side, the network element comprises means (20, 21) for extracting signals from and insert signals into the network, first processing means (24) for processing the extracted parameters in the parameter domain with functions suitable to enhance the quality of the digitised analogue signals and second processing means (26) for processing the extracted parameters in the linear domain with functions suitable to enhance the quality of the digitised analogue signals. Moreover included analysing and selecting means (23, 27) determine the expected enhancement of quality in the different processing domains and cause a corresponding insertion of processed signals back into the network. The proposed method comprises corresponding steps.

  • Patent number: 7372847
Abstract: A method and an intermediate element, or a gateway, for routing an information flow in a telecommunication system including a plurality of switching centres. The switching centres are connected with an Internet Protocol (IP) based connection via the gateways, which are arranged to perform speech coding/decoding for an information flow between the switching centres. The gateways are further arranged to detect if the information flow from the switching centre is a data call and to omit the speech coding if the information flow is a data call. The data call detection is performed based on of a symbol pattern included in the frame structure of the information flow.

  • Publication number: 20040028033
Abstract: The invention relates to the protocol processing in a network element. The idea of the invention is to divide an IP protocol stack between a CPU and several DSP's in a network element. Because the CPU contains a MAC-interface for an Internet interface and it routes IP traffic to the right DSP, a certain part of the IP protocol stack must be handled in the CPU. Each DSP handles the rest of the IP protocol.
