  • Patent number: 8731001
Abstract: Systems and techniques for communication using coordinated multi-point transmission. In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises at least one processor and a memory storing a set of computer instructions. The processor is configured to cause the apparatus to receive information relating to a propagation delay variation between at least a first transmission and a second transmission received at a user equipment. The first transmission is received from a first transmission point and the second transmission is received from a second transmission. The information relating to the propagation delay variation is evaluated and, based on the result of the evaluation, a determination is made as to whether the second transmission point is acceptable as a participant in a cooperative multi-point joint processing transmission to the user equipment.

  • Publication number: 20130195275
Abstract: A resource allocation for a specific user equipment (UE) is encoded using an encoding scheme that identifies a specific antenna port from among a plurality of antenna ports; and the encoded resource allocation is output to the specific antenna port for transmission to the specific UE. The UE blindly detects its control channel and determines its resource allocation by decoding the control channel using a decoding scheme that identifies a specific antenna port from among the plurality of transmit antenna ports. In various embodiments, the scheme is in scrambling or masking (using an ID of the antenna port or UE); by the order of bits when encoding, port specific mapping constellations, and adding bits that give the port index.

  • Publication number: 20130121174
Abstract: Systems and apparatus for managing signaling of channel state information. A user equipment performs channel state information measurements in measurement subframes. The user equipment receives an uplink triggering grant from a base station, with the uplink triggering grant specifying a measurement subframe for which channel state information is to be reported. The channel state information triggering uplink grant specifies a measurement subframe at least a designated number of subframes back from an uplink communication subframe in which the channel state information is to be reported. At the uplink communication subframe corresponding to the channel state information triggering uplink grant, the user equipment reports the channel state information measured at the specified measurement subframe.

  • Publication number: 20130121312
Abstract: Signalling information relating to Multiple Input Multiple Output MIMO channel state information characteristics that a user equipment UE determines to be highest priority for a downlink is transmitted uplink from a the UE to a node of a cellular wireless network. The UE receives an indicator from the node indicating a preferred basis of the highest priority signalling information. The UE compiles the highest priority signalling information according to the preferred basis, and sends the compiled signalling information to the node. If the UE determines that the number of MIMO layers preferred for use for the downlink is one, then signalling information is sent in different messages indicating a first and second codeword respectively, the first codeword being selected to be a closest codeword to an intended MIMO channel state information characteristic, and the second characteristic is selected to be a less close codeword.

  • Publication number: 20120207243
Abstract: From a set of X precoding matrix codewords, there is selecting a subset of N codewords so that each selected codeword is optimized for both a cross-polarized antenna array and a co-polarized linear antenna array. Each nth one of the N codewords is associated with a respective nth group of physical resource blocks PRBs which are wirelessly transmitted downlink. N and X are integers, X>N, n indexes through N, and each nth group of PRBs comprises at least one PRB. In various embodiments: each selected codeword is characterized in steering energy in a respective direction are associated with the PRB groups such that no pair of the codewords associated with adjacent ones of the PRB groups steers energy in a same direction; and each of the selected N codewords is formed as a product of two matrices and the selected codewords are cycled among the groups of PRBs.

  • Publication number: 20110170427
Abstract: From one perspective, a fixed rank r (r>1 is an integer) is determined from received signaling; at least one codeword of rank r is selected from a codebook of antenna weights for controlling inter-cell interference between a serving cell and a neighboring cell; and the selected at least one codeword of rank-r is reported to the serving cell. From a different perspective, the fixed rank r is derived and signaled to user equipments UEs operating in a serving cell; there is received from a UE in the serving cell a report indicating the at least one rank-r codeword; and an indication of the at least one rank-r codeword is forwarded to the neighboring cell. Methods, apparatus and computer programs are detailed as well as embodiments in which different ranks are used for different neighboring cells and narrowband/wideband PMI reporting which can also be different for different neighboring cells.

  • Publication number: 20110085519
Abstract: A method includes allocating length-2n spreading codes to reference signals contained on first and second groups of resource elements in a first physical resource block and to copies of the reference signals contained on a selected group from the first or second groups and a third group of resource elements in a second physical resource block. Each length-2n spreading code is determined using a first length-n spreading code allocated to the first group and a second length-n code allocated to the second group, or using whichever one of the first or second length-n spreading codes is allocated to the selected group and a third length-n spreading code allocated to the third group. Symbols for the reference signals and their copies are spread and transmitted on the first and second physical resource blocks.

  • Publication number: 20110038310
Abstract: A scrambling sequence is initialized using at least a cell identifier and an offset, and a physical downlink control information DCI is sent to a user equipment which indicates the offset. In more particular embodiments a user equipment-specific reference signal UE-RS is scrambled using the initialized scrambling sequence, and the scrambled UE-RS is sent to the UE for demodulating a downlink shared channel (PDSCH). In another exemplary embodiment the generated UE-RS is sent in a pilot part of a subframe transmission associated with the PDSCH and is for demodulating at least a data part of that subframe transmission. In a specific embodiment from the UE side, the UE receives the UE-RS and the DCI which indicates the offset, descrambles the UE-RS using a scrambling sequence that is initialized using a cell identifier and the indicated offset; and demodulates the PDSCH using the de-scrambled UE-RS.
