  • Publication number: 20250065531
Abstract: An improved engineered wood product, and related methods, with improved actual and apparent surface quality. The product includes a high basis weight fines layer overlaying a strand matrix base layer, with one or more overlay layers. The fines layer may be placed between the overlay layers, if multiple overlays are present. The configuration of fines layer and overlay layer(s) minimizes the presence of sub-surface imperfections that may result in visible telegraphing on the exposed surface. A light pattern or texture may be embossed on the outermost overlay layer during the pressing process. Additionally, a paint primer layer or coating with added aggregate may be applied to help camouflage inherent sub-surface defects.

  • Publication number: 20250027321
Abstract: An integrated end joint sealing system that is incorporated on the ends of pieces of siding, including, but not limited to, lap siding. Gasket material is factory-applied to one or both ends of a piece of siding. The gasket material may comprise a compressible, water-resistant or water-impermeable material, such as foam, rubber or the like, and may be sprayed or brushed on as a liquid, or affixed or attached to the ends as a solid material. It may be applied in a factory process pre-painting or pre-priming, during the painting process, or after the painting process. When the ends of respective pieces of siding are joined during installation, typically as butt ends to form an end-to-end linear butt joint, the gasket material seals the butt joint against air and/or water penetration.

  • Publication number: 20240392578
Abstract: A multi-layered, engineered-wood composite shake or shingle siding with weather-tight connections, edge-to-edge, between adjacent shakes or shingle siding planks or pieces. One or more water drainage grooves or channels may be machined or cut into the faces of underlap and/or overlap portions. A shake generally is delineated by a pressed-in groove or a machine-cut gap (e.g., “keyway”). For a shake near the end of a panel, a false keyway or partial keyway may be cut or machined into the end, thereby giving the appearance of a keyway when two ends are fitted together to form a lap joint. The number of shakes on a panel may vary.

  • Publication number: 20230047169
Abstract: A unique modified shiplap joint with a transverse spline extending into the respective edge of each piece of siding forming the joint. The spline ensures that the two adjacent pieces of siding are properly and adequately connected to each other, and, through the nail in the underlap portion of the joint, to the wall. The spline may be located in four possible positions: (1) attached to the back side of the underlap section of the joint (i.e., closest to the wall); (2) through the center of the underlap section of the joint; (3) directly attached to the front face of the underlap section of the joint; and (4) through the overlap section of the joint (i.e., closest to the outside face). The spline may be installed on one of the pieces of siding during manufacturing or at the factory, or alternatively, at the job site.
