  • Patent number: 10196821
Abstract: A roofing panel has a field, an upper edge, a lower edge, a first end, and a second end. The field of the roofing panel is ornamented such as by being coated and/or embossed and/or pressed to emulate the appearance of a traditional roofing shingle. A clip extends along the forward edge of the roofing panel and projects downwardly therefrom. A slot extends along the rear edge of the roofing panel and the slot has an upwardly facing elongated opening. The slot is cut short or truncated at the first end of the roofing panel such that the second end of a like shingle can be overlapped onto the first end in such a way that the ornamentation on the field of the roofing panel prevents water migration through the region of overlap of the roofing panel and the like roofing panel. The clip is configured to be pressed down by an installer through the opening of the slot and lock within the slot to attach one course of shingles securely to a next lower course of shingles.

  • Publication number: 20130095293
Abstract: Disclosed painted roof coverings and related methods of manufacturing such painted roof coverings that use a color coating over the roof coverings instead of embedded pre-colored rock granules on the exposed surface of the roof coverings. By painting a roof covering with a color coating, any kind of top surfacing material, such as rock, plastic, mineral, man-made, or organic granules, may be used in place of the pre-colored rock granules. In some embodiments, it is desirable to size the top surfacing material to provide adequate UV protection and coverage to the weatherproofing asphalt material located below the top surfacing material. Further, the color of the shingles may be accurately matched between batches of shingles, between manufacturing facilities, and even between manufacturers. In addition, designs may be painted on the surface of the roof covering, which was previously impossible using pre-colored granules.

  • Publication number: 20080299320
Abstract: An impact resistant roofing shingle which includes an asphalt coated substrate whose unexposed surface is laminated to an organic film. A process of forming that shingle includes the step of applying an organic film, by spraying a latex, by applying a rubber polymer modified asphalt, by compressing a plastic film having a higher melting or decomposition temperature than the melting point of the asphalt coating or by applying an adhesive to which a plastic film is applied to the unexposed surface of the asphalt coated substrate.

  • Publication number: 20050252141
Abstract: A roofing shingle and a method of manufacturing a roofing shingle wherein the bottom surface of said shingle is provided with a release coating of a continuous film of particles having poor interlaminar strength due to the particles having good to perfect basal cleavage. The release coating significantly eases separation of roofing shingles that stick together when stacked during storage and transit in warm environments.
