  • Patent number: 6070971
Abstract: An actuator for an ink jet printer includes: an ink tank comprising a thick substrate having a cavity structure and a vibrating plate covering a cavity; and a piezoelectric/electrostrictive working portion comprising an upper electrode layer, a lower electrode layer, and a piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer between the electrode layers, the piezoelectric/electrostrictive working portion being disposed on the ink tank so that the lower electrode layer contacts with the vibrating plate. The upper electrode is trimmed only in the portion where the piezoelectric/electro-strictive layer covers the vibrating plate so as to control an effective electrode area and adjust an ink jet volume to be appropriate. The upper electrode layer is trimmed with the piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer covering the vibrating plate at least near the portion to be trimmed of the upper electrode layer so as to control an effective electrode area and adjust an ink jet volume.

  • Patent number: 5976684
Abstract: An organic substrate provided with a light absorptive antireflection film, which contains an organic substrate, and a light absorbing film and a low refractive index film formed in this order on the substrate, to reduce reflection of incident light from the low refractive index film side, wherein the organic substrate has its surface plasma-treated, and a layer made essentially of at least one member selected from the group consisting of silicon, a silicon nitride, a silicon oxide and a silicon oxy-nitride, is formed between the plasma-treated substrate surface and the light absorbing film.

  • Patent number: 5864533
Abstract: A recording and/or reproducing apparatus which employs a disc as a recording medium and in which a recording and/or reproducing unit is supported in a floating state via plural damper units and elastic members. The recording and/or reproducing apparatus includes a recording and/or reproducing unit mounted on a base member via plural damper units and a closure member rotatably mounted on the base member for covering the recording and/or reproducing unit. Between the closure member and the recording and/or reproducing unit, there is mounted a spring plate for biasing the recording and/or reproducing unit towards the base member. When the closure member is at a position of sheathing said recording and/or reproducing unit, the recording and/or reproducing unit is maintained at a position in which the weight of the recording and/or reproducing unit, the elastic force of the damper units and the elastic force of the springplate counterbalance one another.

  • Patent number: 5668791
Abstract: A damper mechanism for mounting a base member containing a recording/reproducing apparatus to a frame includes a solid shaft member having a caulking recess in one end, and a threaded opening in an opposite end. The caulking recess is dimensioned and outwardly expandable to secure the one end of the shaft member to a through-hole in the base member by filling the base member through-hole. A vibration absorbing member has a center through-hole which receives the shaft member therein. The vibration absorbing member has substantially cylindrical shaped first and second portions provided along a longitudinal axis of the shaft member. An engagement recess is formed between the first and second portions of the vibration absorbing member to engage a through-hole in the frame. The cylindrical second portion is larger in diameter than the cylindrical first portion. A set screw with a flanged-shaped head and a threaded shaft portion engages the threaded opening of the shaft member.

  • Patent number: 5642344
Abstract: The recording and/or reproducing apparatus according to the present invention includes a recording and/or reproducing unit finely movably mounted within a main body of the apparatus via plural damper units. The recording and/or reproducing unit has a holder for the disc cartridge rotatably mounted thereon for holding and loading or unloading the disc cartridge on or from the recording and/or reproducing unit. A rotary member is rotatably mounted on the main body of the apparatus for covering the recording and/or reproducing unit. An engagement member is mounted on the inner surface of the rotary member for engaging with the holder for rotating the holder in a direction of loading and unloading the recording medium by an opening of the rotary member. The engagement member is movably mounted on the rotary member.
